How did Y'all find out need Hyst.

I'm curious as to how so many of you know what's "exactly" wrong and therefore you are going to have a hyst, or you had one because you knew what was wrong?

I have severe menstrual cramps (percocet prescribed), been on painkillers for a year. The pain is getting worse (enough to go to ER but I don't----- cost too much LOL).

I know for fact I have alot of scar tissue "inside" me because when I had my C-section, my Doc saw it. (12 years ago).

I'm 40. Anyway, Doc said Hyst will fix me right up! I asked what's wrong with me and he said probably scar tissue and possible Endo. I asked for an ultrasound, it just showed my right ovary as being alittle bigger than the left one and I had a small cyst. So, I guess I'm wondering how did your Dr know you have Endo before he actually does the surgery?

Just curious.

endo

The only way that I know that your doc can know that you have endo is by surgery. I found out 2 years ago, when I went in for emergency surgery because nothing else that my doc was doing for me worked, and he siad "let's check things out" and I agreed. Found out the reason why I was having so much pain was that besides having cysts on it, my right ovary was stuck to my uterus with endo! Ended up having the right ovary removed a few months later, then was fine for about a year, until last November. Pain returned, was put on another course of Lupron (which didn't work too well the last time I was on it), and was fine up until a few weeks ago. Pain returned worse, along with the menopausel symptoms, saw doc again last week. Going for a second opinion on Jan 31st, and looking at a late March/early April date

I brought up the hyst idea to my doc, since nothing else seems to be working for me. I've always had pain with my periods, and nothing seems to work to make me feel better. I'll be on Lupron until surgery, and probably starting HRT 6 weeks after that. It's been rough, but with the love from family and friends, I'll make it, and so will you.

Hang in there!

Endo

I had pain for many years. Severe, for the past almost 4 years. My dr. didn't think it was related to my cycles, although, I was bleeding almost nonstop for the past 3 1/2 yrs. I had severe lower rt. sided pain that radiated into my back with my periods, as well as inbetween. Almost nonstop pain the past year.

My dr found some polyps and was going to do a D & C, also an ablation, so I asked them to do a laparoscopy to look inside and try to find out what was going on, as long as they were knocking me out. She didn't really want to do the lap, but agreed. That's the only way they will find endo, and I had it all over, as well as my rt. ovary, tube, and uterus were all stuck together with adhesions, as well as stuck to my pelvic wall.

That's when I decided that TAH/BSO was what I wanted to go ahead with. It's a tough decision, and truly an individual decision. I know now, I've done the right thing. I am six weeks post op and feel pretty good. I'm ready to take my life back!

re: How did Y'all find out need Hyst

I found out I needed a hysterectomy about 2 weeks ago. I too get awful menstrual cramps and bleeding.

I've always had horrible bleeding and each month it kept getting worse until I finally went to an urgent care clinic last January. I was going through a pad & a tampon in about 15 minutes. I went to my ob/gyn right after that. He put me on some medicine (Provera maybe?) twice a day to keep the bleeding under control. It worked for a couple of months, but gave me horrible yeast infections. The bleeding got to the point that it was 14 days per month. I went back to the Doctor and he suggested an endometrial ablation. He explained to me that a lot of hysterectomies were caused by bleeding like mine and that an ablation might help me avoid a hysterectomy. Had the ablation done in June 2002 and it was great - or so I thought. I started to have horrible cramping in December. January was worse. So bad that I went to the ER on the way home from work one day. I honestly expected them to say it was bad cramps and that I was a baby. I had actually statrted to feel a lot better by the time I got there. With my symptoms, the ER doc thought I had had an ovarian cyst that had ruptured which was why I was then feeling better. His other thought was that I had an appendicitis. He said if it got worse to come back. Of course it was worse and ended up back there the next evening. They did an ultrasound and found I had a lot of problems inside my uterus. There were polyps, blood clots, fluid buildup and a thickened lining. Followed up with my ob/gyn (new one) and she did another ultrasound. Her response was "Oh, now I know what the radiologist meant when he said it's just weird you gotta see it for yourself". We then did a water ultrasound (they fill your utuerus with water through a catheter), but there were too many adhesions so the doc couldn't get the catheter in. Next day, we did a D&C. Again, same problem - the doctor couldn't get passed the adhesions. So now the next course is a vaginal hysterectomy scheduled for the 30th of January. This was not what I expected when I went to the ER two weeks ago. I'm 32 years old. This has been so fast and difficult for me. Thankfully, my husband has been extremely supportive and will be off for the first week and then my mom and mother-in-law will help for another few days.

Anyway, sorry this is so long. I didn't see anyone with the same situation as I was in, so I thought I'd give you all the info.
