6 days post op hysterectomy and I still hurt is this normal?
Good afternoon Ladies, I had a total vaginally assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy 6 days ago and I still hurt. I was told because my procedure was so minimally invasive I should be for the most part pain free within a week and from what I'm reading most women are. It's not awful more like bad cramps well I take that back passing gas and going #2 is pretty awful but the fact that it is so relentless coupled with the fact that I was told I should be able to resume my old duties short of heavy lifting by now has really got me down. I feel guilty for sitting around and ashamed for not rallying quicker. I'm afraid my mate thinks less of me. I know I'm not expected to be back to work yet but I should be doing a lot more. And I'm just not because it hurts. Did any of you who under went the same procedure experience this? When did it stop?

It doesn't matter how your uterus was removed, the point is that is was removed. Major arteries were cut. Organs were moved around. It's not a root canal, it is major surgery. Don't beat yourself up over not being 100% already.
What do you really need to do right now that is so important that your recovery should take a backseat to it? Cleaning the house? 4-6 weeks of letting things go won't kill anyone. Cooking? Let your family show off or improve their own skills for a few weeks! Your job is to rest and heal, and you're not doing that. That is the only thing you should be doing more of right now. Your partner shouldn't think any less of you, because hopefully you have made it clear that this is major surgery and you need time to heal. If you did not make that clear, now is the time.

Did your dr tell you that you should be heavy lifting by now? I would be surprised to hear that! I had a great and easy recover and couldn't do it for 6 weeks, and I think that most others are the same. Are you still having problems with gas/constipation? Because it sounds like that could be causing the issue. If thats the case, try walking around more. Are you still on pain meds? Because those can contribute to the bowel issues. Hope you are feeling better soon!

The type of hysterectomy that you had may be minimally invasive but it was a major surgical procedure just the same. You are very early into your recovery and I would suspect that you are dealing with gas pains. Don't ever feel guilty for sitting around and resting. Keep in mind that you only get one chance to heal properly and you would hate to jeopardize that by overexerting yourself and causing problems. In my opinion, it's most important to keep your pain under control and your body will heal faster and thank you for it. What are you dealing with sounds completely normal to me and the best part is that you will feel better and better as time goes by.
Gentle ((hugs))

Re: 6 days post op hysterectomy and I still hurt is this normal?
Are you taking any OTC meds for pain? I didn't need any narcotics at home but I did take Aleve on schedule for 3 weeks, for cramping/pulling type pain. Ibuprofen and/or tylenol are other options, too, assuming your Dr is OK with that. With OTC meds I was fine unless I did too much, which gave me twinges. Many women have some pain for weeks but if OTC meds aren't helping, call your Dr and run it by him. Pain is such an individual thing. Don't overdo, but doing without any sort of meds may be unrealistic so soon.

Please don't beat yourself up about how you are feeling. We all heal differently and it is not a race. You will feel better but it will take some time.

I am 6 days out and had it the same way as you. I have some pain but nothing terrible. I think how you are feeling is completely normal.

Hi ((Nicole710))
Recovery and how we experience pain are different for everyone. Some may heal faster than others, but we all heal at our own pace. Even those you had the same surgical procedure heal at their own rates. Try not to get discouraged about where you are in your recovery and definitely don't feel guilty or ashamed about it. Listen to your body. If she is telling you to rest, then rest.
