TVH: Question about ovaries-

If I keep my ovaries, which I am, how will my doctor check me for ovarian cancer?

I guess by having my cervix and uterus removed, i'm eliminating two out of the three- but how does one monitor their ovaries?

I'm so freaked out and nervous! 11/16 is coming on too fast!

EXCELLENT question!! I kept both of mine and I think they just monitor them by feeling them from the inside during your yearly physical. I am unsure though. That is how they check before a hyster and I would think it would be the same after, maybe ask, put it on your list of ?s to ask the doc right b4 surgery when he sees you in the the preop room...

Transvaginal ultrasounds, abdominal palpitations and rectal exams can help keep track of some of the things that are going on with remaining ovaries.

Even though I had it "all out" my dr still does abdominal and rectal exams. Actually my gyn-onc was the first to do rectal and I asked why. They said that actually this gives them better feel into the area where the reproductive systems are and this way they can monitor if there are any fibroids or things going on with my vaginal vault.
