Mortifyingly Embarrassing

I had always attributed my incontence to my fibroids and for the first few weeks after my hysterectomy (10/13) it was a lot better. Over the last couple weeks, though, it has gotten much much worse. Not just stress incontenence, the urge kind, too. Gross. I'm not THAT old (47). Any one else with this kind of unfortunately experience? (Just when I thought I would never need this website again .......)

Hi chekhov!

I think it might be a good idea to make an appointment with your medical provider to get checked for a urinary tract infection. Even if you have had them before in your life, and this time it doens't "feel" like one...it may be wise to get screened for this common ailment. I've been told that symptoms of a UTI can change over the years.

well I am only just over a week past surg. so not sure but that was one of my main problems too. I thought was the fibroid but dr also said i had a lot of bowel attached to bladder. so far so good unless I sneeze etc. ( which has been an all the time problem) I hope you get better, and I hope that mine stays good! good luck finding out and feel better soon.

You are my twin! I am 47 also and had the exact same symptoms as you. I regret not getting the bladder sling when I had my hysterectomy. I am overweight and plan on starting a weight loss program at the first of the year. Hopefully that will help the problem.

Mortifyingly Embarrassing

I had anterior and posterior repair with my hyst that has failed. I am having surgery for revision in April and in the meantime I am using a pessary to alleviate the pressure. I never had much of a problem with stress incontinence before the surgery and I assumed that the pessary would prevent it. For the past 2 weeks I have been leaking with sneezing and now I have a cold with a cough and am leaking when I cough. I don't need pads anymore for periods but if this cough gets much worse I'll be using pads or Depends. If I cross my legs when I cough much more I'll be looking like I'm having a grand mal seizure.
