Can Surgery Cause Tears in Lumbar Discs?

I had a LSH and ROO 11/30. Since the surgery my right thigh has been partially numb, I have had moderate RLQ pain that refers into my low back. An MRI now shows a new annular tear in my L5/S1 disc, and I have constant sharp back pain. Could the surgery have anything to do with this? Anyone else experience annular disc tears immediately after surgery? All my doctors are on vacation and I can't get any answers! Just when I thought things were getting better, I get this news, and it really worries me.

Can Surgery Cause Tears in Lumbar Discs?

I am sorry you are having back pain. I have not heard that the surgery causes it, but there have been others who have complained of sore backs and some pain. Hopefully with rest, anti-inflammatories and heating pad you can get some relief. I would definitely not try to lift anything even a little bit heavy.

I hope it gets better for you and you get some help for your back.
