Urine retention post lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy

I am day 18 LAVH due to cervical cancer. I am unable to pee properly and empty my bladder. Has anyone ever experienced this problem? Apparently the nerves are still bruised after surgery and it should get better, but I was hoping someone else out there might be experiencing the same??

Re: Urine retention post lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy

Has it been like his the whole time or is it a new development? I would call dr because I was having urinary hesitancy at 3 weeks and it turned out to be a bladder infection. Hope you feel better soon!!

Re: Urine retention post lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy

No, this isn't new. I failed my first two trial of voids, having a residual of 800mls in my bladder, so they sent me home with in-out or self catheters which I have to do every 4 hours during the day. I have been to see the continence nurse at the local hospital and understand it will be a few more weeks to go. Arggh! Hanging in there though. I've already had one UTI with it all. Thanks for your support.
