DO any of you think that this is TOO much>> I ghave wanted a Brest reduc for years BUT got scared becuase IT TOO is MAGOR surgery and I will be left with bad scars and NO feeling anymore in my nipples, but lessoned pain in my neck, baCK>>

Yikes!!!!!
I am surprised that your doctor would even let you consider this. Your are going to be relying on your arms a great deal to get in and out of bed, etc. because your abdominal muscles will be very sore and weak. Having painful breasts is going to make that nearly impossible. I don't know about anyone else, but having been through a hysterectomy I would not even think about doing both at once.

Try doing a search using 'breast reduction' as your keywords. I know there have been discussions on this subject in the past.

Hi Maggie May!
First of all don't be scared.
I have had both of the surgeries you are talking about.
Actually I had an under the skin mastectomy with reduction and implant on both sides when I was 17 and a TAH in April.
Neither one was too horrible but I'm not sure I would want them both at the same time.
I must say that you need to talk to both Docs about what the recovery for each surgery will involve and talk about how that will combine to affect your overall recovery.
A partial hyst will mean an abdominal incision right?
So you will have two pretty big incisions up top and one below. You may or may not have drainage tubes and you'll need to care for three incisions.
My concern would be that you're not supposed to use your chest muscles for one and not use your abs for the other so what are you going to use to get up and down? Neither one allows you to lift for a while so if you can figure out how to get around without lifting anything it might be okay.
I've noticed that Docs sometimes get tunnel vision and only consider the procedure they are doing and not how it will affect other parts of your body or your lifestyle etc. So you're going to need to ask specific questions from each Doc.
Anyway Good Luck and let us know how things go!

Hello Maggie May,
Although I am still waiting for my hyst and not having it done at the same time as a reduction, I did have a breast reduction 2 years ago. I can tell you that my experience with the reduction was not bad at all. I managed my pain very well and literally did nothing but eat, watch tv and sleep for about a week. I had lots of support at home and I think this made a huge difference. I was not allowed to lift anything or my arms over my head. I didn't have too much trouble getting in and out of bed with my arms, but I was using lots of pillows for support. Showering was a hassle, because of lifting arms to wash hair, but it got better around week two. There are some women who get the whole deal and have a tummy tuck with a reduction and I would imagine it would be the same incision/pain wise as having a TAH. You will probably be feeling really out of it having two operations done at the same time since your healing will be at two separate body locations. My advice would be to make sure you definitely have someone to help you out at first 24 hours a day for a while. You are going to need that support. Wishing you the best of luck with both of these procedures.

Yikes!!!!!
Hi Maggie May,
I had a breast reduction on September 30th last year. It was painful at times and not so at other times. Doc put me on Vicodin for pain, and for about the first 2 weeks I was taking them every 4 hours on the dot.
Then I had my Hyster on May 24th and along with that my plastic surgeon did a scar revision on my breasts.
It took me nearly 3 months to heal up from the surgery last Sept and on Nov 1st I had to go back under the knife because I developed an infection in my left breast when a stitch popped.
I was really worried about the healing this time around with doing the revision and the Hyster. Luckily the scar revision was very minimal compared to the full reduction and I did not have too much pain with the breasts, thank goodness. I had some, but not bad. My Hyster pain was more painful than the revision.
I don't think for me, I could have done both the Hyster and the full reduction at the same time. It was very difficult to get around in the first 2 weeks after each surgery. After the breast reduction, I relied on my belly muscles and legs to move around and had to be extremely careful after the Hyster and revision.
Well, if you have any questions for me or are curious about my experience with the hyster or the reduction, PM me anytime.
Good luck in your decision,
s
Kristi
