first post- 27yo & just scheduled full hysterectomy (children mentioned)
hi there. my name is Noel and I am 27 years old. I was diagnosed with endometriosis in 2007. it took several doctors and emergency room visits to find out what my diagnosis was. after finding my current doctor, I immediately went into my first laproscopic surgery. it was during the surgery that they found severe endo and also an endometrioma. I have had another surgery since and have been blessed to have two beautiful daughters. both my deliveries resulted in c-sections and both times I got severe infections. I have tried numerous birth controls to help with the endo and have recently decided to proceed with a full hysterectomy (laproscopic). I have my doubts and fears bc I am young and have heard tons of horror stories about decreased sex drive, weight gain and basically becoming a man (growing facial hair). my doctor assured me that it is about the quality of my life and functioning. I can barely walk as it continues to get worse. any advice would be grateful appreciated! my doctor also assured me that if I take my medication properly I will be just fine. please feel free to share and give input. I will be having surgery the end of August. thanks ladies!

Re: first post- 27yo & just scheduled full hysterectomy
I too am 27 yo and scheduled for a LAVH/BSO. I do not have endo like you, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer last May. I had a cone biopsy done to remove it, but there was still a bit left that was severe pre cancer so I had to have colposcopies done every 3 months, but my doctor feels its best to do the hysterectomy since my cells are progressively getting worse, and my bleeding its almost to the point of hemorraging monthly. I have two wonderful kids a 5yo and a 2 yo. I am very worried about the menopause side effects, but with my family history my doctor wants to take my ovaries now to save me from another surgery later. I have my surgery in 11 days, I will let you know how it goes! Good luck, keep your chin up, we are not along in this

We are glad you have found the site and hope that you find it informative and helpful!
You will find there are many women on the site who are younger, many with an endometriosis diagnosis. Though I am older now, I had my own hysterectomy for endometriosis when I was 25. Because a hysterectomy is not a cure for endometriosis, I hope you have been able to find an endometriosis specialist for your upcoming surgery. I had my own hysterectomy with my local OB/GYN who could not remove all of my endometriosis. I required further surgery which I had with a specialist. Since then, I have done very well!
As far as "basically becoming a man," not gonna happen! Our DNA is still female no matter how many of our reproductive organs are removed. But your questions about facial hair, libido, and weight can be related to hormonal imbalance. Will you be having an oophorectomy (removal of your ovaries) along with your full hysterectomy (which means the removal of the complete uterus with cervix)? That is the procedure that can cause the issues you are worried about.
If you do have both ovaries removed and can find a successful HRT, then you may be fine. However, finding the right HRT can be challenging and those with endometriosis are not always allowed to use any. Remember, estrogen is the fuel for endometriosis and thus ERT can allow any remaining endometriosis to flourish. Of course, it is actually a bit more complex then that.
To learn more about endometriosis, we do have an Endometriosis Support forum you might want to check out. You will find both pre and post hysterectomized women who will be happy to answer any questions you have and offer support based on their experiences.
I wish you well and hope you will spend some time checking out the site as you prepare for your upcoming surgery! We have lots of helpful articles and wonderful women who love to help!

My bio sister had a complete hysterectomy and she is still a woman and not fat. I heard the same thing. I was and worried too but she is ok. I guess they would call us Hysterbrothers if that were true. Good luck with it all. My surgery is late June.
