questions about adhesions

I had my hysterectomy on 13.11.09 and have just had my appendictics out, although they found there was nothing wrong with my appendictics and it was in fact adhessions causing the pain. I am quite concerned now that this will only add to the adhessions I got from the hysterectomy. Is it quite common to get adhessions and is it due to doing too much too soon

Yes, adhesions can occur from doing too much too soon. However, they can also occur simply because one had surgery. Or from whatever led to surgery in the first place. Or trauma, illness, or infection to an area. Many times, people have ahesions with little or no symptoms.

Worrying about whether or not you will develop adhesions won't prevent them and will keep you in a less than happy frame of mind! So my best advice is to simply follow your doctor's advice for being as healthy as you can be and try not to worry about the what ifs!

Re: questions about adhesions

I was in surgery for five hrs, mainly due to adhesions. I was in pain every day before surgery. My doc told me that adheshions don't happen if you do things too early, I soooooo disagree, that is why I took things really easy for the first six wks. Anytime they enter your body, you have a chance of developing scar tissue. My doc also told me if you had them bad enough to cause pain in the first place, that people like that are more likely to devolp it again and to cause pain, just how long it takes is the question. I had a awful c section, took me a yr to heal from it, and when I had the hyst, I had scar tissue that started at the c section site and went to my gull bladder. I am not trying to be negative or anything, just honest, and my experience. I agree w/ Weiser though, don't matter if you worry or not, do anything or not, if you are going to get them, you will, if not, you won't. I hope you never get them again. Best wishes
