TAH Week 6 progress after TAH on 11/20/14

My progress after my TAH has been surprising good despite a pretty nasty hematoma on 12/2/14. Don't get me wrong, I am still in pain enough for my doctor to add two additional weeks to my STD but at least my incision is closed and without infection. Finding this website and reading the words of encouragement and valuable advice really helped to give me the strength to get through this. My amazing surgeon, Dr. <> was with me every step of the way.

I am now dealing with painful scar tissue and re-absorption of an annoying hematoma. For anyone else going through this, I learned the hard way that steri strips were not my long term answer. I obsessed with the fear of infection, and as soon as my open wound was left alone to heal with gauze instead of the strips, it closed within two days. If you still need meds, take them. Don't rush back to work if you are not ready. I'm not and I accepted the fact that my health is the priority. Everyone is different so PLEASE - ask as many questions as you need to and actually listen to your doctor, even if it may not be what you want to hear. Keep yourself informed and trust your own deep down instincts. I had a pre and post op diet plan that also helped, and I can finally sleep comfortably.
