Hospital bill OMG

OMG I got the itemized bill from the hospital today. It was for $71,054.00. I'm totally in shock! I had no idea. My room alone was $676.00 a day. Just had to let you guys know. Boy, I appreciate my very expensive scar a little more now. Don't know yet how much the insurance will take care of...all I hope. I'm just flabbergasted. Granted I was in the operating room for 4 1/2 hrs and the hospital for 9 days, but gee wiz!!!

OMGGGGGGGGGGGG, I sure hope you have insurance! I was in the castle for 3 days, had a TAH, vertical incision and the few bills I glanced at added up to at least $26,000. It seems the oncology gyno got next to nothing compared to the hospital. During the day I mostly saw student nurses, my husband stayed in my room and helped most of the time. At night, the nurse had to be tracked down inorder for me to receive my pain meds. I really felt the doctor was ripped off and the insurance company. BTW, almost my complete medical bill was paid in full by my insurance company...thank god!

My surgeon is an oncology gyn and works for a teaching hospital, too. And, yes, I have insurance, thank the Lord. I saw a lot of students and always had an audience.

Is yours a diamond-studded scar? Mine must be generic brand. I'm going to shut up about my co-pay now. It looks pretty good since reading your post.

I agree THANK GOD for insurance.

I haven't received my hospital/surgery statement yet. My pre-op blood work (blood work was all that I had done for pre-op) was $800!!

I received a statement the other day and just for the hospital stay alone it was $27,000. That doesn't include the surgeon's fees. Just a pre-op consultation with the surgeon cost my insurance $300 so I can only imagine what the surgery will cost. I had a $750 co-pay (which my parents paid for me - bless their hearts) so got off very easily.

Omg

I really can't believe the cost you guys are having to pay!! I went private here and the whole lot came to just under $7500. Now thats the gyne consult/surgeon, anethitis(sp) and hospital stay of 4 nights. Would have been 100% free if I'd gone public thou didn't want to wait 4-6 weeks. Hehe - for those of you in snow it was just under 25degressC here today!!
