Flying to Europe, 6 weeks post-op

My surgery was on May 2nd and I think my recovery has gone well. I am about to fly to Europe and given the flight is long, I'm concerned about the possibility of blood clots forming. How concerned should I be and what can I do to minimize or help my circulation on the flight?

Thanks for any advice!

Talk to your dr. I have friends who swear by the support hose made specifically for long flights, but you really should check with your dr. I always try to drink A LOT of water so I'll be well hydrated snd forced to get up and move around every hour or two. You can also do some ankle rolls while you're sitting to keep the blood from pooling in your feet. Be sure to bring your dr's number with you for just in case. Enjoy your trip!

Definitely talk to your doctor. I have a 6 hour car ride at 5 weeks post op and my dr said to stop and walk for 5 minutes every hour. I've also read that drinking lots of water, elevating your feet (might not be possible on an airplane), and moving your ankles and knees often can help. Wouldn't it be cool if you could get an upgrade? One can dream right? Enjoy your trip!!!

Re: Flying to Europe, 6 weeks post-op

Anle,

Thanks for the advice. I've been reading up on standing, walking, etc., plus ankle and feet exercises.

My doctor is glad I'm going and feels if I'll stretch/stand/walk each hour, that should help a lot. An upgrade would truly be a dream come true--ah, yes, it would indeed.

Thanks again!
