Nausea, Vomiting & Diarrehea Oh My!

Had a TVH (kept ovaries) on January 20th. Surgery went fine. Threw up one time the next morning, but they kept Zofran in me.

Went home the evening of the 21st, and felt pretty good. The problems started Sunday morning when I woke up nauseated. My bowels moved the day after the surgery but they hadn't after that. I had taken 2 vegetable laxatives but no luck. I used a suppository but didn't go a lot. The nausea started getting worse and I lost my lunch last night.

Didn't throw up all night, but woke up this morning throwing up and diar terribly! Doc called in Zofran. It helped but now my hips and legs are killing me. I honestly thought it would be easier than this...wishful thinking I guess. I'm afraid to take anything for the pain at the risk I will start throwing up again.

Guess I just need some and prayers. My mom had a stomach virus before the surgery, which my 3 y.o. got shortly after. Do you think this is surgery related or totally unrelated?

Let me start by giving you the that you asked for.

I can't say for sure what is causing your nausea etc. I remember that for the first 3 days after my TAH, I couldn't stand up without They gave me Zofran and Phenergan. My and the anesthesiologist both said that I was reacting to the anesthesia (my surgery was really long). I also remember being nauseous at around the 3 week mark.

The stomach virus certainly sounds like a good suspect too.

And I'd say stay away from the laxatives. Try to stick with softeners and natural fiber foods so you don't have extra problems.

I don't have any helpful advice except that a stomach virus sounds very possible. Sending you a and wishing you a speedy recovery x

Stool softeners are fine to take but I would stay away from the laxatives. I had to use the pedia-lax (baby colace in liquid form cuz the adult dose is to much for me & causes diarrhea). Laxatives can cause a lot of cramping. Maybe use some prunes or applesauce. Lots of water even if you don't want it will help things keep moving. You have been through a lot. Best wishes.
