Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

I'm told I have adenomyosis. I dont get any bleeding because I had a novasure ablation last year to 'clean out' my uterus but i was confused to still have pain but no period. So my Gyno did an MRI scan and told me about adenomyosis, where the womb lining grows into the muscle behind the uterus and cant escape in the normal way. I certainly look bloated , but then I am a bit overweight anyway. The pain OH THE PAIN, I thought I was giving birth to quads over the weekend. I wake up in the night with intense contraction like pain that is constant for about 2 hours before pain killers finally kick in. I have had two children and the Pain of this is so much worse. I find a warm bath helps relieve it slightly. My gyno told me to take progesterone to put me into simulated menopauase but it hasn't worked so when I see him next I'm going for the hysterectomy. The pain is not every month, sometimes I can go 6 months, 3 months etc. When I have an attack it takes me a full week to recover, cant walk, stand etc.I find it painful to go to the toilet. So thats my story and I would be interested to know if it compares to anyone elses. Has anyone tried a tens machine to relieve pain. I used one when I had my two children and managed to give birth without any other pain relief. I am going to buy one and give it a try while I wait for the operation. Good luck to anyone who is suffering with this. Would be pleased to hear from anyone who has any advice to give or just wants to have a chat. I am in the UK by the way. xxx

Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

jackie- I use a tens machine for adeno pain. The machine has four pads, I use two in the front and two for my lower back. It helps but not completely. I've never experienced labor pains before and it's unbelievable how the tens machine could help labor pains and not the pain from adeno. I use it with a combination of heating pad and pain killers.

Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

I too have that horrible bloated belly already. By the end of the day I look 4/5 months pg! Around Christmas I gained 8 pounds in one month and was having a terrible time with bm's. I went to my general doc and she checked for hemi's or tears, nothing, so she ordered a colonoscopy. Nothing was found, but the gi specialist thought that my uterus was appling pressure to my colon. U/S showed that is was. Somedays are worse than others. But I am so looking forward to my surgery!

Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

It seems to be a vicious circle for me. I have to take cocodomol for the pain, but the tablets themselves cause constipation which, coupled with the pressure from enlarged uterus just makes things worse as far as going to the loo is concerned. I wonder if changing my diet would help? Fortunately I have my children and I have no emotional attachment to my uterus anymore so i cant wait to get rid of it. NHS waiting list here I come. I stopped taking the progesterone tablets today as clearly not working for me so whats the point.

Nice to hear from you ladies, good luck with your treatments. I think at the end of the day , no two experiences are going to be exactly the same , bit like childbirth, everyone has a diffferent tail to tell.

Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

Hi Jackie D,

I can definitely relate to the labour-like pains!! I've been experiencing them for years. I did the natural child birth experience and in a lot of ways, it was far less painful that the intense adeno pains. They are especially frustrating considering they serve no purpose whatsoever. When I'm particularly afflicted I too find it difficult to walk etc.

April 21st, here I come!!
Best of luck and positive thoughts to you all...

Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

My doctor didn't know it was or suspect it was adenomyosis until after surgery. I had my surgery 4 months ago. I had Severe bloating often, not even on my period, to the point I would have to by a bigger size pants by lunch some days. It was extremely painful when the bloating would come and I looked 6 months pregnant within an hr.

I am actually having trouble with bowel movements now, as opposed to pre-op. This sounds strange after reading your posts. I am still in quite a bit of pain still, especially after standing on my feet all day or working in the yard. I hope this lets up soon.

Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

Hi! I also have suspected adenomyosis, and am severly bloated. FRom about a week after my period my belly starts to get bigger. By the week that i start my period I look like i'm about 5 months pregnant, and boy does it hurt. It hurts to walk, hurts to sit, hurts to lye down. My Bloated stomach also is very tender. That first week though after my period, i am normal, not really much pain. This is a terriable thing for us women to have, and do not wish this for anybody.

Re: Adenomyosis and bloating

My surgery is a month from today... I can't wait for this pain to be gone. The pain from the constipation is so bad...I don't even try to put pants on anymore...I just wear dresses.
I've been trying to eat things that used to give me diareah, just to help me go to the bathroom, but nothing is working. How sad is it that I'm looking forward to the enema the day before my surgery.

Adeno sucks!!!!
