how to know if spotting is normal post-op

Hello all! I am 8 days post-op from a TVH and have felt pretty great. The first 3-5 days post-op i had hardly any bleeding or "spotting" at all and now the past 2 days I am noticing more "spotting" /bleeding coming out. Mainly when I go to the bathroom and wipe, but a tad on my pad at times. It is now a brownish color. My discharge papers say it is normal to "spot" a light brown color for up to 6 weeks after surgery. Just wondering if any other sisters have had the same experience that i am having & if this is indeed normal. Also, anyone notice a smell coming from down there too? Just curious--as i have been feeling good & up & around. Just want to make sure the more spotting is normal & others have had the same happen to them & everthing was & went fine for them. Any stories or advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks to all for the wonderful advice & help---this site is GREAT!!!!

Re: how to know if spotting is normal post-op

I had no bleeding or spotting until 2 weeks post op. Today marks week 5 since my surgery and at times I still have a little bit of pinkish discharge when wiping. Dr. said this was normal at 4 week checkup. Stitches are dissolving and the cuff is healing. As far as the smell, yes I had an unpleasant odor too. This is now gone!

Be well

I will keep an eye on it then & will be soooo happy to finally not have any bledding/spotting and be done with it all & the pads! Best wishes to you as you continue to get well on your recovery & hope your back to normal soon! Thanks again!!

Re: how to know if spotting is normal post-op

I had no bleeding at all when I got home, but started spotting right at the 2 week mark like my dr said I would. I'm now almost 6 weeks and it has slowed down enough that I don't have to wear a pad, it's only there when I wipe. I'm ready for it to be gone though!!!

I've been starting to wonder when you should worry if you don't stop spotting after a certain period. I have noticed that if I am more active, it picks up a little bit. Going back to work on Monday so it will probably pick up again next week.

Re: how to know if spotting is normal post-op

Hi Ladies
I had my surgery on Oct 26, DaVinci with everything gone. with similar experience but wondering.....I've been seeing bright red blood everytime I wipe for a couple of weeks now, should it be bright red? It's enough to wear a mini pad. And in the evenings there is definately an increase in the discharge. Also, in the late afternoon I have to take off my jeans and change in to the dreaded sweat pants because I feel so bloated, swollen. I have been getting pretty good pains in the late evening as well on my left side. Last night the pain really scared me, felt like tearing inside. My skin is even tender around that area that hurts. (It's close to the left top incision and left of belly button)

Any ideas what might be happening? I'm starting to worry.
Thanks< Carrie
