An oncologist will know more about what, if anything, needs to be done after hysterectomy in your case. I would think that your doctor is playing it safe for you in recommending that you see an oncologist. My surgery was done by a GYN oncologist because I had hyperplasia with focal atypia (pre-cancerous cells), and my regular GYN wanted him to do the surgery. He said she was "playing it safe."

Oncology

I sort of know what you are going through. Back in 2002, I had "exploratory surgery." I went to my post-op appointment and the doctor walked in and said something to the effect of...you have cancer and I am your cancer doctor. I had no clue that I had cancer...he thought that someone else had told me in the hospital, maybe they had, but I was on so much pain meds, I had no idea what was going on. Anyways, he turned out to be a great doctor. I checked him out, I even went to UCLA for a 2nd opinion and the dr there did his fellowship with my dr. I have grown to love my dr. and I get my jabs in at him every now and then.

Just wait and see what the dr says. You will be in my prayers! Let me know how things go...

Tucker11:
I am so sorry that you have had this diagnosis... You don't say what lead you to your surgery, but I would say at this point it is better that you see a gyn/oncologist... They will probably suggest a second surgery to do staging by doing a pelvic wash and lymph node removal..
You will also get more info if you log onto the Cancer Concerns Forum a few sections down from Post Hysterectomy...
There are many women that are on that section daily that will guide you thru any questions/concerns you may have. Feel free to p.m. me if I can help further.
