epidural for pain management?

Hi ladies!!

I'm sorta freaking out today. Surgery is approaching quickly and all the "stuff" they are throwing at me has me spinning. I had my preop yesterday...and that went ok. Got my lovely bowel prep kit...and instructions for before surgery. Today called to get my time for surgery and the surgical scheduling nurse said that she is going to recommend an epidural for me for pain management instead of the pain pump. Has anyone had an epidural for pain management? And it doesn't mean I will be awake during surgery does it? Cause if so there is NO WAY I will do that. I am just so thankful that they gave me one more thing to freak out about before surgery

I've not had my surgery yet but I do know that if you are given an epidural you are not completely out. I said that its okay for her to suggest what she thinks but the decision should be yours to make. My suggestion to you is that you do what your comfortable with. I heard pros and cons for both the epidural and the general. With a general you are out and wake up its over, so you decide. Some times the medical field of people they become a little to comfortable with what they do everyday and see all the time and begin to treat individuals as a whole. They need to be reminded that we are all individuals and we react differently to things.

Search the site read more all be it quickly you almost there and then you make a more informed decision based on what you can handle and what you need. Good luck and let us know how your doing when you can. Thinking about you.
