What to expect advice please
I am due to have sugery on May 13th, my Dr. is going to try a vaginal hyst and if he can't do this he will proceed to do a abdominal hyst, he will remove everthing except my ovaries..I feel as though he did not talk to me enough, I don't know what to expect after this is done as far as recovery time and will this affect my sex life? How long before I can exercise and things like this.. I am tring to get things done as far as housework but it never ends..I am just so worried...

Hi,
I read your post and the first thought that came to mind is this: Please go talk to your doctor again. Make up a list (written down) of the questions you have and write down his answers. If you're not satisfied you might check into getting another docs input.
We can answer questions about recovery and specific issues you have, but I think(and remember I'm not your doc) you need to get some more answers from your doc

Welcome BellBottomBlues....
...to a great site. You've come to the right place for answers and the best support you can imagine.
Sounds like you need to sit down and have another discussion with your doctor. I'd cruise around this site, write down all the questions you can come up with, then meet with him and go over them one by one. I found it helped to have my husband (or someone else close to you) there with a copy of the list of questions...if I forgot anything, he made sure it got asked. And take notes!
I'm only about 3 weeks post-op so I can't answer the sex question, though I know that is one of the biggest concerns for "ladies in waiting!" There are lots of threads here on the topic...no question is emabarrassing or stupid. Do a search on "sex" and see what you come up with. I can only say that from what I've read so far, most women seem to have no problems afterwards...for many, the sex is better than ever since they no longer suffer from their pre-hysterectomy problems!
Recovery time is generally 6-8 weeks. Remember that you only get once chance to "do it right" (recover, that is). Usually you can be "up and around" in a couple of days, depending on the type of procedure performed. Walking is highly recommended as soon as possible after surgery (short trips around the house, then around the block, etc...)
My biggest recommendation to you is to have someone close-by (staying with you) for at least a full week post-op (24/7). After that if you're feeling up to it, you can manage on your own for at least the daytime hours (As long as you have everything you need- i.e., phone, water, TV controls- closeby!) Make sure you are a PAMPERED princess!
Keep coming back here often. ASK QUESTIONS! And again, welcome to a great place...I come back here several times a day. I've found great info and support here from all over the country (and overseas!)

Hi bellbottomblues --
I agree with the others, you need to have another talk with your doc before your surgery, to help calm you fears.
Check the following link for lots of pre-op suggestions including a list of questions you might want to ask your doc:
http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...s=&forumid=170
and it's normal to be worried and scared. Everybody here has felt that way.
Most docs will tell you recovery time is 6 to 8 weeks, depending upon the type of surgery you end up having........but everybody is different when it comes to healing.
I went back to my gym at 7 weeks post op from a TAH/BSO, and it was difficult at first. It's important to give yourself time to heal and listen to your body during recovery.
Best of luck to you --

Yes it will effect your sex life. In an oh so wonderful way. With all the female problems now history, my sex drive is through the roof and every aspect of intimacy is as good or better than before. Here I thought my pre-surgery sex life was great. What did I know! I now know why I didn't need sex as much as DH. I thought it was a guy thing them needing sex everyday. It's a female having to put up with way too much garbage thing. With the female issues gone, I have a sex drive comparable to DH now. Except, he's a morning lark and I'm a night owl. Life can't be perfect
