Weight Issue

I am about 50 lbs. overweight. Does it make a difference in the recovery time and do they have to use more anesthesia?

Thanks for any info, I have been trying to diet, but the only exercise I seem to get is running to the bathroom to change pads.

Looking forward to the end of this mess.

Weight Issue

I'm about 50 pounds overweight too. Darn that PCOS!
The doctor didn't mention anything about needing extra anethesia or recovery time. We only talked about blood pressure. My is slightly elevated, but the doctor said it wasn't a concern. I didn't have any complications during or post op. From what I've read, my healing process has taken the same time or less than other sisters. If you're concerned, talk to your doctor. My doc spent quite a bit of time going through all of my concerns, including the weight issue.

Weight Issue

Ladies. Have gained 25 pounds in less than three years, am 47, nearly 48 am not "in" menopause yet, no hot flashes, etc...but have the weight gain and declining libido. Boy did I find a book for those of us with the weight gain/hormone issues. Titled: "Women, Weight and Hormones". By Elizabeth Vliet, M.D. She is right on. A must read. I went over it with my compounding pharmacist and he said it is right on target, and he and I are developing the "right" hormone mix..before I get the TAH BSO, so I will have my hormones at a good starting point to loose all this weight when I'm out of surgery. The book is good, and I do know a bit about the endocrinology (hormone) field. Lots in there about thyroid, insulin, stress, it has it all. Love it.

Weight Issue

I was 50 lbs (or so) overweight when I had my TAH/BSO and I healed fine. My doctor said I had a 20% higher risk of having an infection than if I was thin. I didn't get an infection. I was meticulous about the care of my incision.

As for anesthesia, it is quite possible that the dose is based on your weight, but I don't know that for sure. I don't remember being weighed before my last surgery, so maybe it isn't based on weight, come to think of it.

Hope all goes well for you.

Weight Issue

I was weighed before my hyst, though the doc never mentioned needing more anethesia because of my weight, though it does make sense.
