Long term weight limits
I'm just curious how many of your doctors gave you long term weight-lifting limits.
Mine did not give me any, except for the initial 10 lb. limit during my first 4 weeks post-op.
However, I've sort-of limited myself, because whenever I pick up anything too heavy, even now, a year later, I feel a pulling sensations in my abdomen, and get achy afterwards.
Has anyone else had this sensations even months afterwards, and have you limited yourself on lifting even if your doctors didn't?

Lisa

Long term weight limits
I am 8 weeks post op tommrow, yesterday I moved a bird cage, had to lift it, it really isn't heavy, maybe 20-25 lbs...but it is two feet by two feet by 3 feet high. I brought it to the back room. Seems I have a weak right side...and last night I paid for it, swollen belly on that side and a burning hurt....sigh. I was cleared at 4 weeks with no heavy lifting for two more weeks, that would have been 6 weeks...so you have to be careful! My Friend who had a hyst 2 weeks before me works lifting heavy stuff all day and she is fine...sigh...
Each person is different! But I was feeling good, doing all activities..so how do you know?

Long term weight limits
My Dr gave me a lifelong weight limit or 10 pounds, but only after I asked about the possible consequences of lifting, and what I should limit myself to. I had done my homework! She seemed reluctant to tell me, but I insisted, since I like to move furniture around in my house!!!
I needed to know so I would not "pay for it later". You see, my problem is, if you add up the vaginal repairs I had at the births of my two bio babies, one of them over 9 pounds, and this surgery, another surgery down there to fix an even more severely prolapsed bladder than I have now, would result in not enough room for DH, if you know what I mean That is the reason I did not have the bladder sling done. I had to choose between A repair or P repair.
I was told I can push and pull, because that is different than lifting. If I get carried away doing that, though, I feel it. So, I am trying to set limits there for myself as a safeguard.
Although I miss moving things like I used to (10 pounds is pretty light!!), I think it's worth it.

Long term weight limits
Lisa, I've been curious about this as well. I had no repairs, so I would assume that I could lift more than those who've had repairs. But how much are you limited to? I'll have to ask the dr. at my next visit. I've kind of limited myself somewhat, I don't do the heavy lifting around the house that I used to. But I started to do some gardening (lifting heavy bags of dirt) and I'm wondering about moving furniture too. Maybe one of our veteren sisters has the answer to this

Long term weight limits
I think the weight limits are different if you had any prolapse repair then if you just had the hyster. I will continue to be on a 10lb limit until the end of June when I will be 4 months out and have my final examination. He has not discussed lifetime limits, but from what I have read most urogyns and PTs that specialize in pelvic floor rehab suggest a limit 0f 20-25lbs for life. They also suggest no situps or crunches either or high impact sports. I am having a hard time because I was a runner and a weight lifter, but DO NOT want to go through this again having the prolapse surgery. I am going to try to behave and stick to walking, biking, yoga and lifting 5 lb weights.

Weight Limits
I also have a "weight limit" imposed. When I went back for a 12 week check up (should have been the usual 6 weeks, but that is another story!) my Gyn told me no "heavy lifting or pulling forever!!" I had a TVH and bladder repair. The repair work seems to be the reason for the limits. I will go along with this as I certainly don't want any more "repairs", even though I feel like a sloth sometimes I picked up a small dog (approx. 18 lbs) that belongs to a friend awhile back, and paid for it all day long, heaviness in the pelvic area mostly, this will happen if I forget and lift something heavy.
