doc would like to take remaining ovary

Hi. I've been in and out on this site for a few weeks now. Have fibroids and suspicious mass on right (and only) ovary. Finally got to my ob/gyn surgeon and he says uterus is much larger than others thought-estimates 16 weeks size. Suspects suspicious mass is an endometrioma, similar to one on left side 15years ago-no longer have that ovary because of the "mess" they found on left side. Anyhow, he would like to remove the right because of the increased risk that endo will come back in some places "where I definitely won't want it" as he put it, when he removes my uterus. His feeling is that endometriosis will continue to return if you leave the ovary even if all other reproductive parts are gone. He is a very well respected surgeon and has known me for more than 20 years. I trust him, but I worry about having no "natural " hormones left. I'm only 39. He says he's much more worried about returning endo than finding the right HRT for me. Its my (and my husband's) decision to make and we have one more week to decide. i'm scheduled for an abdominal hyst, with or without the ovary taken on June 3. Anybody in the same boat (in your late 30's with no ovaries?) Thanks

Hi Ada,

Just wanted to stop by and give you some s and also to this back up so someone can come along and give you an answer.

I know there are lots of ladies in the same boat you are. As a matter of fact, my hysterbuddy, Tracy, who had her surgery the same day I did, had to have both ovaries removed due to endo. She's in her 30's and can't take HRT either because of the endo. And she seems to be doing well without it.

Best wishes and s,

Lisa

Hi Ada,

I still have my ovaries, so I can't answer your questions, but I did want to remind you to go into your control panel and add your date of surgery to your profile, so you'll appear on our calendar and will receive a special greeting from us.

You might want to read some of the articles in the Hormone Jungle while you're making up your mind.

No matter what decision you make, I wish you the very best for your surgery and recovery.
