too soon to travel?

I became a princess on 5/9 with a TVH. Had to stay in the castle for 4 days due to post op infection/fever. I'm feeling alright, did a little too much today, trying to rest. DH has been wonderful, my 3 year old is with grandparents, that helps. My kitchen is in the middle of a total renovation so I have no cooking except micro. That is a little tough, mostly because everything is a total mess and I'm a neat freak. My sister in law is getting married in Texas (we are in TN) next Friday. My DH is willing to take the kids (3 and 6) alone and drive. I feel a little guilty about not going, but I'm afraid that if I go, I'll start off OK, but then be stuck if I start feeling bad. My inlaws are going to be there and they are pushing a bit for me to go. Anyone else encounter a similar problem 2 weeks post op? My DR says I can do what I am comfortable with.
Thanks for all the support!

too soon to travel?

Hi Jenn,

The initial recovery period from a hyst is generally accepted to be 6-8 weeks. Even though you don't have an external incision, you still have a lot of internal healing that needs to take place.

You say in your post that you overdid a little today and are feeling wiped out. Although you should feel a wee bit better each day, at only 2 weeks post-op you will be still very early in recovery.

It sounds like your DH is understanding of recuperation, so my opinion is it would be best to allow him to take the children and go to the wedding. I'm sure that you would like to be there, but it is important that you take care of yourself. Please don't let your in-laws influence your decision. You already had a complication with your infection at the hospital and I don't think it is worth risking any further complications. Besides, as you say, if you are tired and sore when you get there, you wouldn't be able to enjoy yourself.

Best wishes and s

too soon to travel?

I would definitely not go. I understand family pressure, but they don't understand. It's not right to put your recovery in jeopardy to show your face at the wedding. I had to miss my nephew's funeral because of a medical problem that wouldn't let me travel. I don't think my sister understood for a long time until she saw how long it took me to deal with that problem. It's tough, but some things you just can't do. If you went & had to spend the whole time in bed what good would that do?

too soon to travel?

Thanks ladies for your help! I spoke to my sister in law today and she understands. I think for all concerned (especially me!) I will do the smart thing and stay put! I've asked my 6 year old to be my "official" photographer and take tons of pics for me. She is thrilled to help, it makes her feel very grown up!

Thanks to all!
Hugs!
