Periods...

I am having my periods every 2 weeks for the past 2 months. I called my gyno yesterday and he requested bloodwork to check for anemia. It sounds like I may need some surgery as I have fibroid tumors and a cyst on my ovary. I guess the fibroids may be causing the bleeding? I am afraid I am losing a lot of blood. They are checking me for anemia. Anyone else have this kind of problem? I have been waiting 2 hours for nurse to call with bloodtest results. Please help... Thanks

Periods...

I had a period for a couple of months straight and right on into the OR! It's a good thing for your Dr. to keep tabs on your blood and iron count. Mine dropped faster than the Dr. expected. I needed a transfusion, although most people don't. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Diane,

I started a period at the beginning of January last year which went until the middle of March. It stopped for about a week, due to the Provera the doctor put me on, then started again and went for another month.

Needless to say, I was severely anemic. The bleeding was caused by two fibroids, and was very, very heavy. I ended up in the ER twice and was hospitalized once for complications. (Soaking 8 superplus tampons and two pads in an hour for days and days at a time is a little too much!!) I was so tired from the anemia that I could barely function.

I had a TAH in May of last year, and it was the best thing I could have ever done for myself! I feel so much better, like a new woman!

I hope you can find some help for your problem. Let us know how you are doing and what you decided on.

s,

Lisa

Doctor call

Hi,
I had to call the doctor's office again and they said my hemoglobin was down a little but not real bad to be calling me anemic. I have a gyno appt next Friday at 1:45 for exam and consultation. I am scared. Thanks for your replies so quickly.
Hugs,
Diane

Periods...

Hi Dianne,

I am a new member as of today. I spent 5 hours in the emergency room last night due to my never-ending period and heavy bleeding. Not to gross you out, but I was loosing blood in clots as thick as Jello and about the size of my hand - yuck, yuck, yuck! So - a vaginal ultrasound shows a fibroid tumor growing inside the lining of my uterus - this is what's causing the heavy bleeding. They took 6 vials of blood out of me (like I needed to loose that much more!!!) and my blood work came back absolutely normal - it's amazing what the human body does to take care of itself. They sent me home with specific instructions to make an appt with my gynecologist on Monday (I did) to get this "problem" taken care of. I guess the first thing they're going to do is to go in with a camera of some sort to see how deeply lodged it is and to see if they can get it out with a laproscope. If not - then they're talking the dreaded "H" word. I am scared too death and would appreciate any and all support out there!

Good luck, Dianne and write back to let me know how you're doing !

Periods...

I too have had the heavy bleeding during my periods with the clumps
of blood. Fortunately I have not had the pain that most of the other
women have talked about. However I'm not so lucky with my blood count
being normal. Mine is down to 6.9 hemoglobin and the doc plans on
giving me at least 3 units of blood the day before my surgery. I have
to have the hysterectomy because my fibroid tumor is 20cm and way to
big for any other option. I guess I'm also lucky because I just found
out 3 days ago that I had the fibroid and will be having surgery on
Tuesday, so I haven't really had time to dwell on everything. Just
make sure you have your doctor keep a close eye on your blood count,
it is no fun when it is this low.

Please keep in touch and let us know how things are going with you.
My thoughts are with you.
