Fear

Hi,
New here. I have been reading many of the post ops and believe me after I can get the scheduling nurse at my docs to call me back, I am canceling. I will deal with the excessive bleeding and clots, but I will not be peeing myself, having dry sex, constipation or anything else that I have read. I was scheduled for uterine removal and ovaries only if necessary and my doc said this could not be done vaginally. Good luck to everyone and God Bless.

This is to let you know that not all surgerys have bad outcomes. Most of the post op posting are those who have had problems, but there are hundreds that do not have any problems at all. I am one of those that have not had any problems and am doing great, I just don't post very often.
Only you can decide what is best for you, no one can make that decision for you. Good luck in your decision.

A recommendation!

PLEASE don't let the postops scare you...

I for one stopped reading them after one of the "sisters" here recommended that. Please go to the link at the top that says "New here"...I believe there's a recommendation there to stick to the pre-op questions or just read those post-ops that you've asked yourself.

It's easy to scare yourself silly reading those. But as "kayaker" said, for every one instance of someone having complications, there are thousands that go smoothly! This is a SUPPORT site, so women who've had problems come here for help...keep that in mind!

For me, this site was a Godsend. You just have to use it wisely. I felt so more prepared and I still come back every day, even 5 weeks post. I would say that 99%-100% of the women here, even of those who had to endure some complications, are VERY HAPPY that they went through with their decision...their quality of life overall has improved so much over what it was like before...

Of course this is a difficult decision for everyone to make, and you have to weigh the risks and benefits. But please don't let those "scary" posts affect your decision. Most of them are temporary problems and most women don't have any long-term negative effects from this surgery. It is the most commonly performed procedure for women.

Best of luck to you....We are here for you, whatever you decide!

I had a TVH a little over a year ago and was able to keep ovaries. I had a great recovery, the worst pain I had post was from hemmorhoids. I don't have a bladder problems, I don't have any problems with lubrication during sex and I enjoy a wonderful, pain free sex life with my DH. Recovery was not a bad thing for me. I simply followed my Dr's instructions to a tee, maybe a bit overboard as I've had several surgeries prior to this one for scar tissue and I didn't want to do anything to maybe cause more forming. Not all surgeries are bad, not all recoveries are hard. I read some of the post op's before I had my surgery also, and I scared myself, so quit reading them until after surgery. Alot of women come to post op boards because they are having problems, and some to just post of how great they are doing. We tend to just see the bad stuff. If you are having problems and hysterectomy is recommended, I would not cancel because of what you've read. Each woman has a differant recovery. TVH was so easy to get through and I'm so glad that I had it done. I was so tired of bleeding so much, heavy, heavy clotting and cramping and sex wasn't as great because I'd spot afterwards or have some pain. Now it's great. I do have some hormonal issues now, but it's not because of the hysterectomy, but because of my age and I'm entering premenopause. Think again before you cancel, not all have problems.

I had my surgery just 3 weeks ago this coming Wednesday and I feel quite normal. I can't bend and
twist like I could before, but I'm going for 25 minute walks around the neighborhood every day. I
even drove to the grocery store for the first time yesterday. I haven't taken any pain medication
since I got home from the hospital. And I was only there for 2 days. It really was not a bad experience
at all and I'm looking forward to finishing my recovery, since I expect I'll have more energy than I've had
for years because I won't be anemic any more.

Do what you feel is right for you, but please don't concentrate on the negative, because it may
not happen to you. It didn't happen to me. Good Luck!

Most ladies that post on the 'post op forum' are posting because they do have problems. And with tens of thousands of ladies that are registered here at hystersisters, 20 different complaints, or even 50 or 100 complaints, isnt many in comparison to all of the successful surgeries that you hear nothing about.
Please try to avoid the post op boards and talk to your doctor before cancelling. The ladies there are the ones with problems, and most ladies without problems dont see a need to post "hey I feel great" if you know what I mean.

I am sorry that you are dealing with this, but please try to keep in mind that the post op forum pretty much deals mostly with complications, although I do wish more ladies would post their good outcomes.

Please do reconsider and talk with your doctor first.
Take care and big hugs to you.

I'm a post-opper! I post mostly on this forum to let LIW know how good things are going.

Here are the main points: I am too young to be feeling as old as I was feeling pre-op. I woke up after the surgery amazed how terrific I felt. Not much has changed since then. Hubby and I are having a wonderful time recovering together.

As many - MANY - of the Real Life women have told me:

"It's the best thing I've ever done."

I had a TAH and was able to keep my ovaries. I was a bleeder also. Even taking BC pills could not stop the constant flowing. I was so tired of wearing pads 24-7 because I never knew when I was going to start bleeding. I was so sick of only getting one week every month where I felt normal. I bled at least 16 days a month and had an infection from wearing those darn pads all the time for another week every month. NO more!!!
Life is fantastic now with all that female garbage behind me. My sex drive has skyrocketed so much so that DH is wondering where his old wife went. I have no issues other than some lingering swelly Every day I feel blessed and one of the luckiest women in the world. If my female friends knew what I know now they would all be wanting a hysterectomy.
I did not go vaginal because I was concerned that I would not heal well that way. I found abdominal to be way easier than I thought it would be. It's a personal choice. The women who have no issues with their decision to have this surgery are not here posting because they are too busy living their new lives. Some women do have issues to go through and need support. That's why it seems like eveyone has issues with a hysterectomy. Not true. Go with what feels right for you though. I knew in my heart I wanted this and I have not been dissappointed.

as all the other ladies have said..... you don't necessarily have problems..... i had a tvh/b.repair on 20/02.. and i feel great.... i had no constipation or pain.... they give you pain meds to control any pain you may have.. once i had my catheter out it took about two weeks to pee normally but everything is fine now....i believe the most crucial thing is listen to your doctors and take their advice... my sex life is great and i have no dryness... i understand your fears and you must make the decision.. the way i look at it.. is why suffer with heavy periods and blood clots... life is good after hysterectomy... yes.. you do have negatives but there are PLENTY of positives.. i wish you well... mary. xx

I am sorry if you are scared! I have had none of the above problems! I am fine! I don't pee myself, no dryness issues etc....... I am not trying to talk you out of your decision but I hope you don't think that is the norm!
I wish you all of the best!
