:confuse: Back to really not knowing what to do!! My internist and gyn think I really need a hyst - saw my neurologist this week for my migraines; he thinks it will be a mistake to have a hyst, because it will increase my migraines, but he's checking with another doc that is big on hormones and headaches. Also talked to my endocrinologist today, and she thinks I shouldn't have the hyst - and that I don't need to go on hormones unless I can't stand it without them, but the first 2 docs think I should definitely go on them! OMG!! This is a mess! In the meantime I have surgery scheduled for 6/18 because I teach and this is an easy time. If I wait, I won't be able to easily get my son to his first year of college, which I really want to do. (Gyno only does surgery one day/month!)

Migraines aside, why does your gyno think you need a hysterectomy? Do you think you need a hysterectomy and why? What is at issue? Is it only because of the migraines?
I had frequent migraines because of BC pills. Once I had my surgery and got off the pill....no more migraines You don't take BC pills do you?

So sorry, I have edited the text below because I got you confused with another user name. Here is the corrected version:

I'm also a migrane sufferer. Yes, HRT in the wrong dosage can make migranes worse. There are a lot of ways to do HRT and with some experimenting you'll probably find one that works for you. I'm on the Climara 1 mg patch (weekly). I notice I feel yucky the first day I apply the patch. One of my symptoms is a feeling like I'm going to develop a migrane. I've called my DR and we'll work on adjusting the dose. I may go on a lower twice weekly patch.

A hysterectomy is an operation performed to treat specific diseases. If you definately have that disease and other treatments have failed, the operation is definately worth having.

I had a LAVH/BSO a little over two weeks ago. I felt wonderful the next day and that hasn't changed. I forgot what life without pain was like.

I'm not on bc pills. I have adenomyosis, possibly endo, pcos, migraines, 14 wk uterus w/ cysts, get periods every 15-20 days that last about 8 - 10 days - what a mess! DR wants to do a TAH BSO (although I only have 1 ovary now). Must say I'm leaning towards cancelling. I don't think the docs know what to do......

Well, Jeanne, you have to realize that most likely, the gyno problems you're now having will only get worse and worse over time. Do you want to live with that?

An endocrinologist and neurologist aren't knowledgable about why you need a hysterectomy, they're giving their advice based on what you go to them for treatment -- the migraines.

Do they have to take the remaining ovary? If not, you won't need hormones. Find out exactly why the doc wants to remove it.

Maybe it's time for additional opinions? Also, you might want to do some research yourself (through medline or other medical sites) on hormones and headaches. I bet it's not as cut-and-dried as your doctor's are making it out to be. Not all doctors stay current on recent research, so many are working with "state-of-the-art" knowledge from 15 - 20 years ago (whenever they finished their training and set up practice).
