I'm 6 days post-op and just had my second bowel movement after surgery. First one was a breeze but this time I was constipated and had to do some serious straining. It didn't hurt to do it but I'm thinking this CAN'T be good on all those internal stitches. Can I do any damage inside if I strain too much?? My incision is feeling a little sore right now too.
Anyway, I think I'll start drinking Metamucil tonight so this doesn't happen again. This a new experience for me. I haven't been constipated in years!
Boy do I remember constipation I had to drink prune juice and warming it seemed to help. I used stool softeners and while I was still in the castle, they gave me an enema and left me alone Try not to strain but since you already have and are having some bleeding, you might call your dr. Were you having any spotting before the bowel movement? Are you sure it was coming from the vagina and not the rectal area? I ask because sometimes straining will cause hemmoroids to bleed. I didn't even know I had one, until after my hyst. Take care and get lots of rest and your water!!! Karlene
