severe dysplasia

I am having a hysterectomy on 9/14 and a little frightened I have never under gone surgery of any type before. I am 47 years old and have a family history of cervical cancer, my mother and grandmother died from it. My doctor has only found dysplasia and at my age a hysterectomy was advised. I am being reading many of the messages posted here and found the answers to many of my questions. My question is could there be more then dysplasia found when surgery is performed.

Hello! You didn't really mention what all would be removed during surgery. Whatever it is, they will do a biopsy and then you will call or the doctor will call you with the pathology results from it. I completely understand about being scared!!! This was my first surgery too, and I had some terrible thoughts running through my head. I know that you can read what everyone went through, but not actually knowing is what is so scarey. I was very nervous about the anesthesia and asked for something to relax after I was put in the prep-room. It really did help...and my dh and docs found me very amusing too!! Believe me when I tell you that the wait is truly the worst part of it all!!!!!!

Hi,
Have you undergone a cone biopsy? Or is your doctor going straight towards a hyster? I also had severe dysplasia with squamous cells AND adenocarcinoma insitu. I had a D&C and cone biopsy and my margins were clear. In other words no hyster (as of yet) I too have never had any surgery, other than a cesearian birthing, and researched, worried and found this site. At first I was "gung-ho" for a hyster to just get totally rid of the worry and anxiety until I read some of the issues faced by those that have already had a hyster. I deal with alot of depression without the hormonal factor of a hyster and I "totally" feared the outcome of more depression alng with a lengthy recovery. My attitude changed. Not for the desire of more children or of feeling whole/complete but absolute fear of added depression.I could not survive more.
Thank goodness I found this site and did not persist with my pleas of a hyster. Doctors sometimes go for the "absolute" and do not weigh the pros and cons nor do they always inform "you" of all that is involved. Today my body is rid of all abnormal cells and growths and there has been no added depression. Had I not found this site possibly I could have been dealing with alot more today (if I had not considered all that I have learned here)
Of course your situation may and quite possibly warrant a hyster but I would absolutely consider the D&C (far less radical) before I would plunge into a hyster.
Sincerely & with best thoughts and wishes,
PS. please read my posting of " Finally relief of worry"
