"passing" stitches?!?!

Hello Ladies...

Can some of you who have "passed" stitches please describe them? (Color, length, etc.)? I know I should know what I'm looking at here, but so far I think I've seen two different kinds of stitches...

I'm 5 1/2 weeks post-op, by the way...at what point in your recovery have you ladies started experienced this?

THANKS.
p.s. I swear I had one today that was 1 1/2" long!!!!! Hey aren't these things supposed to DISSOLVE?

Bad enough we have to fret over passing gas or passing stools...now THIS?

"passing" stitches?!?!

Hi there! I passed a few myself! Varied in length from maybe 1/8" to 2". Color varied also. From a greyish white color, to reddish brown, and even a real pretty shade of pink. Depends on location and amount of blood absorbed I think??? They ALWAYS looked like something that should NOT have come out of a person, so I always figured it must be stitches. This whole process is such a learning experience!! I just had a bit more this past week, and I am now three and a half months post. Who knows how long this will go on. I thought I had been done with it. But SURPRISE!!! I have just gotten good at paying attention to everything and saying and thinking WHATEVER....patience. Keep looking forward to the one year mark, which should be the start of the new me, final version!!! Take care and keep on resting!!!!

"passing" stitches?!?!

I didn't see any stitches until after my 6 week check up. Just a few small grey looking strands. Looked like tiny worms or something.

stiches

I will be 3 wks post Tues, and so far have seen 2 white/grey strands that sheri described ( maybe from the Uro's sling repair?) and 2- blackish tissue looking thing's with a small thread poking out of them. The only bleeding I have is if I over-do, and thats only on the T.P when I toilet. I wonder how many stiches?? A question I forgot to ask the Doc??

I Haven't...........

passed anything that looks like a stitch. Actually, I haven't passed anything at all, well, okay maybe gas!

I keep looking but I'm wondering if my body decided to keep what is there. I mean, hey, everything else was taken, so maybe my body decided that enough was enough?

I don't know.

what??

passing stiches?
I am 5 days post op and only see a bit of blood on toilet paper and even that is minimal.

Well, at least by reading all these posts i am starting a list of questions to ask doctor on my 1 week post op visit this thursday.

btw-- the only pain i seem to have is the one in my belly button where one of three incisions were made.

I'm so glad that I got this done finally. !!

Sheila.....

...they're passed from the vagina...I found 'em on my panti-liner!
Maybe it's only from those of us who've had TVH's...but even with a TAH you'll have stitches at the vaginal "cuff". I also had a rectocele repair (vaginal wall) so I think that's where these are coming from...right now I have one "dangling" from the episiotomy site!

Stitches

I too found the stitches lingering out of me. I still had them coming out at 6 weeks or so. I had a lot of stitches. Mine were short and tan in color. A lot of the descriptive stuff probably depends on your doctor's suturing techniques and materials.

I just think that after a surgery such as this that if you have ANYTHING coming out of you, it is call for a call. Talk to your doctor's nurse or your doctor. No one will know better what color and length of stuff should be coming out.

I'm almost 6 months post op. I asked a lot of questions here and to my doc. If you are at all concerned about an issue, talk to the doc. That's what we pay them for. I wish I would of spoke up a little more than I did.
