Open Incision

I had a TAH/Supracervical on 5-12-03. On 5-17-03 the incision broke open and bled profusely. I went to the ER where they said I had a seroma under the incision. They told me to see the surgeon on 5-18-03. The surgeon reopened the entire incision to let it drain. He left the incision open with instruction to pack it everyday with aquacel. My question is does anyone know how long it will actually take before the incision heals closed? My doctor looks at it and says it will take a very long time but no definitive period of time...has this happened to anyone else?

Open Incision

I don't have this but I can tell you about my husband who had an open incision when he had skin cancer removed from his face. They took quite a chunk and we were surprised that they left him with a crater of a wound. The DR said we could consult with a plastic surgeon to have the wound closed but he frequently leaves them open with good result. He reminded us if they closed the wound with sutures, there would be a scar. Well, the wound is now closed (it closed much faster than we thought it would - try vitamin C with your DR's permission) and the spot is barely noticeable. Before this bout of skin cancer surgery I had never seen this done and, frankly, I'm quite please with the result.

I hope you have an equally good outcome.
