Upcoming Surgery

Hi..I'm new to this site. I have a prolapsed uterus, a cystocele, and a rectocele. My surgery is scheduled for June 6th. I've known this was coming for a while but am starting to get stressed over it. My Dr is going to try to do hyst vaginally, but may have to reopen the scar from my two prior C-sections. And the bladder supspension dr. said he will have to make a separate incision right at my hairline. I'm just anxious to hear from others who have had these 3 things to repair at the same time, and how their surgery went. I'm especially worried about the bladder thing. I'm only 39 and have been told to keep my ovaries, by dr and friends who've had procedure. I go in for my pre-op next week but I'm unsure what exactly is done to repair the rectocele..anyone have an idea? Any dialogue would be appreciated. Thanks

Upcoming Surgery

I am 37 yrs.old and had abdominal hyst. bladder & rectocele
repair on may 13,2003. I kept my ovaries, we are very young and have a few years before menopause and we wont have to take hormones all these yrs. and getting regulated on them sometimes is very hard. when I awoke from surgery after all three procedures, I had such minimal pain and through the stay at hospital even after taking me off demerol pump and on oral meds. I still had very little pain. I came home after 3 days or should I say when ever I passed gas I could go home, but I did that third night, one of my big fears was my first bm I thouht
with all the stitches I would be horrible, it wasnt bad at all, just remember water and walking are the most important thing to remember, it helps get you through this . Listen to your dr. and about the kids visiting , maybe the second day you'll probably be very sleepy the day of surgery. I will say a prayer for you......

Hi NOTYET40,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!!

While I'm sorry that you are facing surgery, I am glad that you found us and posted to introduce yourself. It's normal for you to be feeling stressed out and worried right about now - but for most of us the waiting part has been the hardest part of the surgery, and I hope that will be true for you, too.

I had my hyst vaginally, too, with repairs for a cystocele and a rectocele, but I can only answer the part of your question that pertains to the rectocele. In my case, I had an episiotomy-like incision in the wall of the vagina. The excess tissue was removed, and the incision was stitched back up. If yours is repaired the same way, you'll probably find it uncomfortable to sit for a few weeks, and will want to have a "donut" pillow to sit on. This takes the pressure off of that area. In my case, the cystocele was repaired vaginally, too, and I did not have a bladder sling.

If you do a search on the site (click onto the word "search" above the "more Hyster Sisters" drop down box at top right) for rectocele you'll find many threads that may be helpful.

Oh - before I forget - please go back into your control panel and add your surgery date to your profile so that you'll be on our calendar for June 6th and will receive a special greeting from us.

While you're waiting, please be sure to read our Pre-op Hints (click here) and the Post-Op Hints (click here). They are full of great advice that will help you to prepare for your surgery and recovery.

Please post any other questions that you may have - we'll do our best to help.

Thank you Sharra and KDeit for responding to my msg...I feel better already...My last C-section was Oct 2001 and then April 2002 I had to have a thoracotomy (70% removal of right lung) due to a benign carcinoid tumor. That was worse than either of my 2 c-sections...I had a 3month recovery before returning to work..anyway..I got really depressed after that and gained weight..when I need to be losing weight..so I'm really afraid of ballooning up...is this weight gain I hear about any type hyst or for the full hyst when you're thrown into menopause?..

Thanks again...
