leg pain - two weeks postop

hi - i had a tvh on 5/16. for the most part feel fine, except for my legs. it started four days postop. it constantly feels like ive pulled all the muscles in them. and its not the same each day. one day it may start down near my ankles, another day its my calves and my knees. for a few days, it even went away - then came back with a vengence.

is this common? i've tried calcium, quinine water, motrin, and klonopin. the klonopin does seem to help, but it only lasts for a few hours. most nights i'm roaming my house, trying to work the "knots" out. but i havent done anything to pull any muscles.

can anyone offer words of encouragement? it is driving me nuts. i see my dd this afternoon, and will ask her about it. two weeks post-op, hoorah! i had adenocarcinoma insitu - and it had moved up into the uterun (sp?) canal. so i find out today regarding radiation, etc. wish me luck.

this is such a wonderful site. wish i'd found it before my surgery. but am thrilled to find it now.

(((((Jomarch)))))))))),

I have no idea about the legs since you have tried calcium. I would call my Dr. and ask about it. I did know a man who had leg cramps ,drinking alot of orange juice helped him,(think it was the potassium).

and Good luck on your radiation discussion!!!!!!!!

I hope your treatment is rapid and successful!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Have you posted at the cancer concern boards? The ladies there are great!!!!!!!!!!

I see you had a TVH. I have heard it is the positioning of the legs for this surgery that causes this. The legs are in a forced spread eagle for over an hr. I still have some soreness in hips and wonder if it could be from this. This should get better with time and rest. Does it get worse if you over do? I noticed more aches and soreness if I over do anything physical. Take care. I hope you feel better.

Me too

I was going to post about this. My surg was on May 8 and just yesterday my legs, particular my left leg, began to ache. Now that I think back, I was having painful twinges in my upper left thigh a week or so ago, but didn't really pay attention to it. My pain was down by my knee yesterday, but more of an ankle area thing today. Very vague and just kind of achy. Of course I don't have any answers about it, but at least you are not alone. My personal opinion is that it is ghost pain or referred pain. I have had referred pain from a gallbladder operation some years ago, and that was in my buttocks muscles. Not out of the question a hysto could hurt in your legs.

PS - As of today, made it through the entire week of work. It has been really rough. If I had it to do again I would surely stay out the entire 6-8 weeks that my Dr suggested. Coming back after 3 weeks was pure silliness on my part, and has certainly set back my healing on many fronts. Don't try to be brave. If you have the time to take, take it. You only have one body.

thanks so much for your replies. saw my dr on friday and they ran a scan over my legs to ensure there were no blood clots. very comforting to know that but its not making the pains and cramps go away. also started drinking quinine water. its just so strange - yesterday they didnt bother me at all - today i cant sit still because they ache and cramp so much. onwards and upwards, ladies. thanks sooo much, again.

Leg Pain

Hi-
have been following this for just a few days....Am brand new-so bear with me! This is a wonderful place -wish I'd known about it before!Had my TVH and bladder repair, etc on 5/21/03 so am 2 weeks post-op. Saw the dr yesterday. She wants to re-evaluate me in 2 weeks. Have been feeling relatively ok....but terribly exhausted. -and incredible leg pain/aches....I'm up and down most nights with (almost) cramping legs...you know that feeling when you almost cramp. The leg thing is driving me NUTS. have always been a hiker,bicyclist-outdoorsy type (My sanity control!). It is so difficult to barely be able to stand w/o pain....My good dr suggested massage on the legs-she felt it is due to: #1)the awful position for 2/3+ hrs of surgery and #2)my pre-op fitness level which is sort of working against me???-the legs are somewhat atrophy-ing...the muscles are rebelling? Thanks so much....any suggestions would be helpful.

leg pain - two weeks postop

Hi,

I developed leg aches about 2 weeks post op from my second surgery after developing a hole in my bladder.

I am now "diagnosed" with RLS (restless leg syndrome) and I too think it's from me going from being so active (use to jog everyday 3-5 miles) and from the stress on my body.

I saw a neurologist this week who changed meds and now I'm even more twitchy and achey....I was on Klonapin now I'm on Mirapex....

Good luck.

leg pain - two weeks postop

Hi all,
Wow, I just read these and saw myself. I am 9 weeks post op with tah. Went back to work last week and since then have had really bad back pain and leg twiches at night. The back pain is so bad that I have a hard time falling asleep at night. Tried heating pad and Ben Gay. Still nothing works but the leg jerks are driving me nuts. Also have night sweats which wake me up with soaked nighty. I am on hormones but have bought herbs to help with night sweats. Was told last night that maybe I shouldn't be mixing hormones and herbs. Anyone have any suggestions?

leg pain - two weeks postop

Interesting theory about the athletic lifestyle giving us trouble post-surgery, I too was a runner and my leg pain was the most persistant pain following surgury, mostly left leg, outer thigh but moved around a bit and made me nuts. The last Darvocet I took was for the leg pain... I am nearing 4 weeks and it's mostly gone.

leg pain - two weeks postop

I had pain in my right leg for 5 weeks after surgery. I was also told it came from the way I was positioned during surgery. My sister-in-law, who's a nurse, put it to me this way. I had a doctor, his assistant, and a person studying to become a doctor at the surgery. All three people had to fit between my legs, and the surgery was 3 hours! No wonder I had leg pain.
For relief, I used a heating/massage pad or soaked in a warm tub. The doc also put me on 2 doses of anti-inflammatory Bextra.
I still have other probs post surgery, but the leg pain is gone. The one thing that helped tremendously is, when I was ready for it, I began taking walks around the block every day. I made myself do it every day, and now my leg is fine. Hope everyone is feeling better soon. Aunt May
