Thumbs up - Need support to get myself moving Need support to get myself moving

I'm very new to this site, and am inspired. I've learned that I'm having the same/similar symptoms. I'm tired all of the time , and I never contributed it to my surgery or the Estrogen. My eyes are dry, and I can't seem to lose any weight.

I really need to get myself to the gym, I really have no excuse, I just need to go. I also want to start eating right, but I can't stick to it. HELP!

You can do it!

Ditzy - Here's what would motivate me when I belonged to a gym. I figured once I got there, I HAD to exercise. It's not like I could just lay on THEIR couch!

You can do it! Join our daily thread for mega motivation!

All the BEST,

Sherry

Need support to get myself moving

Hi ((((Ditzy))))) and Welcome to BEST

You sure are in the right place to find both support and encouragement. As (((Sherry)))) suggested, please join the daily threads on this forum: I know that, along with my weight-loss group, this group has been the :key: to my succeeding in loosing those 50 extra lbs I was carrying around!!! And they're helping me in my battle to maintain at my goal weight (it's been harder than I expected )

Also, the most important thing towards success, is to find a program or a plan that you enjoy and know that you can stick to. For instance, I have a very hard time exercising indoors. So I'm opting for outdoors exercises: walking, biking, swimming (preferably outside) and skating (both in-line and ice skating), because I really enjoy it and therefore am sure to stick to it. Also, I know that I need the support of others and the motivation of the weekly weigh-ins, therefore, I've opted for the support group/weekly weigh-ins/weekly conference approach.

Whatever works best for you, BEST is sure to be there for you and help you every step of the way.

Need support to get myself moving

Robbie, welcome to BEST! Let's see if we can't get ya motivated!

I suggest putting on your exercise clothes first thing in the morning. Once you have your exercise gear on, you'll find it very difficult to resist working out, whether it's going to a gym, walking around the neighborhood, or a video in your home.

Are you a current member of a gym? Then the old stand by is of course, the money you are wasting by not using your membership. Now if the issue is going to a gym because you are intimidated, then I'd suggest finding a workout you can do at home until you are more comfortable exercising and therefore less intimidated by the gym, or find one where you are comfortable and can have fun working out.

The last suggestion would be buy yourself some new exercise wear ... you'll want to put it on and use it!

Good luck!

Need support to get myself moving

This may sound nuts, but I live in a condo in an area with extreme weather. That means there are days I chose not to go outside due to cold, snowy conditions or hot, humid weather. As long as I keep moving, I am exercising. I walk around my condo. I own it, so why not. No one else is there to think I am nuts. I just walk rapidly in a circuit. That is what I did to start myself exercising. In addition, at home, you can do pushups, situps, and use light weights for the upper body. The more you do, the easier all physical activity is. I believe this helps the energy level. Regarding dry eyes, you may want to have your eyes examined to rule out a problem. Eyes become drier with age. There are sterile eyedrops, one of which is called, DRY EYES. I do not recommend Murine. Your doctor can tell you the best one. In the meantime, up the water, and lower the salt.

Need support to get myself moving

Hi Robbie~ Boy can I relate to you! I struggle getting going myself. I tell you what really helps me though is to hang around here. It is a great place for motivation!

Best thing to do IMHO is for us both to start small and increase as we feel ready. Such as perhaps WEEK ONE- we could concentrate on drinking more water , WEEK TWO- concentrate on moving more, WEEK THREE- concentrate on portion control and so on!! Next thing you know we'll be doing it ALL and it will seem normal and less like workfor us!

WE CAN DO THIS!!!!

Take Care, Dawn

Need support to get myself moving

Hi Robbie,

I agree with everyone here, and you also have to see what works for you! I bought a pedometer a couple of weeks ago and am having a ball watching how much I do or don't walk each day. On an active day for me, I'll walk the dogs twice, walk around at work a lot, and go to Curves for a half hour of exercise. On those days I can rack up 10,000 steps (for me, that is about 4 miles). On my sluggish days I can have fewer than 500 steps, and I can see the difference in my attitude. Having this visible monitor of my movement gives me something to watch and measure and gives me a boost (or a kick in the pants).

You might also consider getting an inexpensive exercise tape to get started, if you are uncomfortable going to the gym with other folks. BSQ's idea of putting on your workout clothes first thing is super. I really appreciate the support of my workout clothes and I am MUCH more likely to move briskly with those clothes on!

Do a little at a time, don't obsess, but try to raise your consciousness whenever you can. You might also take a peek at The Zone, at www.zoneperfect.com - they have lots of practical tips for eating and getting yourself moving, and they often point out that you can start wherever you are, just start to pay attention and see what you are doing and eating.

Good luck, and do join us on the daily BEST threads, they are fun!!
