very warm and confused

Hi,

It's been almost a year post TAH BSO and I still seem to be having difficulties with my hormones. I went from pills to patches and finally I am on Climara .05mg. I went from being cold all the time pre-op to being very warm all the time and uncomfortably warm frquently. It isn't like the awful hot flashes I had immediatly post op just irritating. I am constantly asking "Is is warm in here or is it just me?". I also have extremely tender breasts and irritability. It is almost like pms with no period. I started on the highest dose of Cllimara and have been working my way down. The higher doses caused an upset stomach to the point I wouldn't want to eat and extreme irritability the first half of the week then feeling great the second half. I also take Synthroid and Prozac. Help!! I don't know who (meaning what kind of m.d.) to see or what to do or ask for. I had an Estrogen test done which was in the normal range, but my OB said that it is a huge range and most people he just treats symptoms.

Thanks for reading. I look forward to any replies.

Toasty,
Have you had your thyroid retested since you started on estrogen? Estrogen can upset the thyroid balance so it is possible that your Synthroid may also need to be tweaked.

I did find after my hyst that for about the first year plus I was a much warmer person than before the hyst. It also didn't take much to warm me up, just a cup of java was sure to set off a hot flash. The good news is that the farther away from surgery and the closer to hormonal balance I got my body temp has seemed to return to normal.

Who diagnosed your thyroid imbalance? You may want to give that doctor a call. Actually whichever doctor you feel most comfortable with. I have several different doctors that I see. I have an Osteopathic doc who handles my GI stuff and hormones, my gp who I see for infections, a GS I see when I need surgery, a Neuro doc for head and nerve problems, and a gyn who handles my annual paps and female exams. I usually will call whichever one I think will help me the most.

Thanks for your reply. I have had my thyroid checked and actually went down on my dose. It doesn't seem to have made a difference. I have been seeing a rheumatologist for fatigue and muscle aches. He diagnosed me with fibromyalgia syndrome. He did say that the muscle pain and fatigue could be from hormone imbalance. The only other doctor I have seen in the last three years is my ob. I wondered if I should see an endocrinologist or internist to help me figure out my problems. Is there a more scientific way to figure out what level you need to be at?

Also I had a question about progesterone. I was told you don't need to take it if you had your uterus removed, but I have a lot of symptoms listed on the low progesterone list.

Thanks for listening
toasty
