Hi Ladies,

It has been along time since I have typed anything on this site.

I am going to start curves tomorrow and was wondering how many other ladies go to curves.

I would also like to know how long you have been in it and what your results have been, if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks Lmd

Hi Lmd --

I'm not a Curves member but there are many ladies here who are and they love it. Probably some of them will come along and respond to your post soon.

There are many posts here on the boards about Curves. If you do a search I know you'll find some, but in the meantime here's a link to a thread you might like to read from a while back, started by someone asking basically the same questions as you:

I started 2 years ago, but I did take a time off since I changed jobs.

My first month, I drank more water and stopped all soda. I went to curves 3x/wk. I lost 11 inches and a full 1% of body fat. It was only 3# but all I care about was the other.

Hi There,

Curves has worked out very well for me. Since my surgery it's helped me with stamina, strength & muscle tone. I am on the thin side and unfortunately I haven't been to Curves in the last three weeks. I was on vacation & now have a lousy cold that I don't want to share with other Members'. I love the music & atmosphere & I'm always motivated while I'm there.

Curves

Good morning ladies,
I've also been investigating Curves. I was planning to visit one of the sites prior to my surgery in late April. I'm looking forward to joining as soon as I get the OK from my doctor. I'm going for my 6 week checkup next week. Do you know about when it is okay to start that type of exercising. I was concerned because I heard that we are not supposed to do any heavy lifting for months after the surgery. Utilizing some of the machinery is doing having the same effect as lifting weights. Although I have lost about 10 pounds since the surgery it's been a challenge not to regain the weight because I've been so inactive. Also, I have a lot of weight to lose. Thanks.

I go back and forth on how I feel about Curves. At my first weigh in/ measurment I lost 4 pounds and (if I remember correctly) 71/2 inches.......then nothing and I joined in Jan. 2003. I love the energy it gives me through out the day so I will keep going. I would just like to see better results.

re:curves

I've heard nothing but good about the gyms. Unfortunately, I joined a large gym before hearing of a Curves in my area, but my friends joined and just rave about it. Give it a try as soon as you get an okay, but don't expect to be able to keep up at first. Go at your own pace until you build up stamina and muscle tone.

Hi Lmd,
I joined Curves in December when I'd been losing weight for six months post hyst. I'd previously been a member at the YMCA for many years, and was pretty fit underneath a thick layer of fat that had been disappearing since surgery. I went back to my step aerobics at 7 weeks post, and slowly added some weights but was very careful of anything that felt like it was tugging at my belly.

Anyway, after the first two months I reportedly lost a whole bunch of inches and about a pound. But I've been eating poorly and NOT following my preferred plans, and now, at 6 months I have actually shown a gain of 5 lbs. But that is MY fault because I have not eaten in a manner that supports my fitness goals, my weight loss goals, or even my basic health goals.

The recommended workout at Curves is 3-4 times a week. I jumped in and went 4-5 times a week, no problem, but it finally occurred to me that EVEN THOUGH this is not the kind of workout I used to get at the YMCA, it IS working my muscles and a day of different exercise between workout days at Curves is really beneficial. So I have started going 3 days a week, and am trying to walk more or just DO more on my off days. My goal is to jump on my mini-trampoline but I've been all talk on that so far

You will reshape, and you may or may not lose weight, depending upon where you are when you begin, and how you approach the plan. But you will be pleased with your results if you are patient and persistent!!!

Anyway, I love the attitude at Curves, I like the people very much and I recommend it to anyone. I would like to see my mother join, but she is too busy golfing and playing tennis (she is 83).

Good luck, keep us posted!!

Hello

I am also another Curves Chick! I love it because it is fast and fun. I am able to go at my lunch hour. Which means I have exercised and not had to take up time at home, when I want to be with my family. I go Mon Tue, Thurs Friday every week. I am hypothyroid and have a hard time losing weight. It is going down slowly but I can tell you I am really toning. I fit into pants I could not wear before. I also do the treadmill 3 times a week right now. I know that exercise is the key for me. Even if I dont lose a lot more weight but tone and lose inches I am thrilled. Also the more you exercise the more you can eat Now that I love.

Good luck

Katie

Katie,

Good job! Seems like consistency is the key. Unfortunately I haven't been in 3 weeks to Curves. What started off as allergies turned into a nasty cold then a sinus infection. Clearing it up now.

You Go Girl

Sister Katie

PS: Another Curves opens within 3 miles of the one I go to.
