Doctor requests a visit

I called the office to ask if I could lower my dosage on the patch because my hair is still shedding since 4 weeks post op and they want me in to run tests and ask if there were any other things and I mentioned joint aches and a little more tired than I was. They want to run a thyroid test and maybe some others. They don't think this is from surgery.

Am I just falling apart or what? Have any of you had this happen? I am anxious now and worried I have something bad.

You sisters have been great in your support. I have learned so much here and don't know what I would have done without you.

Doctor requests a visit

My sister has hypothyroid, and those symptoms were similar to hers. That's fairly easy to control with medication, but, like HRT, it took her a while to get the dosage and type just right.

Doctor requests a visit

My allergist just ran a bunch of blood work on me for the same thing! I went out of my mind when I found out what she was testing for, then she reasured me that 99% of the time they come back negative! She did a TSH, T3 and T4 (all to check my thyroid), a CBC (complete blood count, red cells, White Cells and iron level for anemia) A sed rate which the way it was explained to me was it is just a number that indicates something MAY be wrong like an infection etc... and an ana panel which checks for autoimmune disorders such as cronic fatigue, fibromyagia, etc. I came back all clear like she told me they would. my diagnosis with all of my symptoms Exhaustion (not enough sleep and not enough hours in a day) and hormone imbalance. There is nothing to worry about. It may be hormone imbalances, anemia, or hyper or hypothyroid! Everything will come back clean as a whistle!

Let us know how things turn out

Love & S

Doctor requests a visit

I was hypothyroid before my hysterectomy, so I was reading quite a bit about this. I recall that sometimes a hysterectomy can cause the thyroid to be affected. It's definitely worth checking out.

I picture these 2 things (thyroid and estogen) as being on a teeter-totter. Seems like everytime I feel weird, I have to adjust one or both of them to feel normal.

I am not a doctor, but, it sounds likely you have a thyroid hormone imbalance that can be easily managed with hormone replacement. Thyroid hormone replacement is not that big of a deal. It is the not knowing part that can get to you obviously. You have a wonderful doctor in that he/she is concerned and is addressing you symptoms! If I were you have a very complete hormone panel to check your pituitary glands function! The pituitary is the "master gland."

There was a recently published study from Finland following 18,000 woman post-hysterectomy. Oddly, they found there is a marked increase in the diagnoses of thyroid cancer immediately post-hysterectomy and up to 18 months after that! The increase is NOT due to the hysterectomy itself. The increase in thyroid CA seems to be associated with the bleeding and fibroids that often initiate the hysterectomy in the first place. So, now the hysterectomy, is concidered a "marker" for thyroid CA! I'm not saying this to scare anybody, just to create an awareness! I am a thyroid CA survivor and now a hystersister Princess, so this "news" was of interest to me! Frankly, thyroid CA is pretty rare but easily treated.

Thyroid CA has very few symptoms and is slow to grow, usually. I did not have a thyroid imbalance prior to being diagnosed. Your hair shedding issue sounds more like an imbalance. I did not shed any hair prior to diagnoses. Now that I do not have a thyroid, the texture of my hair has changed and more easily "sheds!" Alopecia.

My hair has been falling out too. My doctor also sent me for those blood tests : TSH, T3 and T4, CBC, sed rate, B12, Glucose and something else I can't remember. I didn't think that the phlebotomist was ever going to stop taking vials! She must have taken 7 of them and at the end of it, my blood stopped running.

I haven't gotten the results yet though....I should call and find out I guess!

Thanks Ladies,

It is always good to hear what others have to say here. I feel better about them running tests now. I guess they should run them before doing anymore adjustments on my hormones for sure. It's funny how I didn't have hair shedding till right after surgery or aches either, but at least they can rule some stuff out.
