Thanks, God Bless

appendix

I asked my doctor to take mine out and he said no. I even signed to have it done. Still said no. When my Mom had a hyst decades ago, they took her appendix out. I just wanted everything out that wasn't needed because I said you aren't going in again! My surgery was one year ago today!

Unfortunately, now I'm going back in the hospital on Monday for an angiogram and possibly angioplasty and stent on a vessel to my kidney. I wanna be healthy!!!!!!

appendix

I just talked with a dear friend (who is an OB-GYN and a surgeon) about this topic. She said that it is "old school" to automatically remove the appendix. She says that she takes a look at the appendix during surgery. If there is a problem and it needs to be removed then she calls in the general surgeon who is on call to remove it. She leaves them alone because she doesn't want to add the extra risk of infection from another procedure. Plus, she said that it becomes a liability risk.

When I called my Dr. to find out his thoughts, he said the same thing. So, I guess it is up to your Dr. and what he/she routinely does. I know that I respect my friend's opinion and her expertise.
I will leave it up to my Dr. to decide what to do when he "gets in there."
