TAH and Crohn's Disease

Hi everyone! I've had Crohn's disease since I was 18 (I'm now 46) and have had problems with my TOM's since forever. I have finally made arrangements to have the hyst, since I can't stand the 31-day periods or the weekend spotting that I get (how is it your body knows what day Thursday is, so it can begin spotting, and what day Monday is, so it can stop!?!?!?) and am concerned because of my Crohn's. I had a bowel resection about 6 years ago (my one and only Crohn's surgery) and because of the Crohn's, my Dr. wants to do only a TAH. I really like and trust her, but I'm a little worried about the surgery and what I might have to look forward to during recuperation. Has anybody else had this problem?

By the way, it's weird. I've wanted this surgery for about 20 years, but now that I'm actually going to have it, I'm really nervous about it. Is that normal too?

FYI - my surgery isn't scheduled until August 9th. I wanted to be able to do the San Francisco half marathon on July 27th.

There have been lots of ladies with Crohn's disease here at various times. Try doing a search of the site. Click on "search" at the top right of each page, then type in Crohn's disease. You will get a list of threads have it mentioned.
