What Can I Expect?
Hi it has been a while since I've joined you all. I had surgery 2 years ago. I have been taking Premerin for the past year after taking Prempro for nearly 6 months and before that the docs had me trying a few other meds. Since being put on pemerin I have been put on medication for high blood pressure and now they are saying that my cholestoral levels are high. It seems to me that one thing just keeps leading to another. I am almost 40 and I had a TIA about 13 years ago. I have a family history of stroke and heart problems. Question is should I stop taking premerin and if I do what alternatives might best suit me? I also am having problems losing weight. I weight 185. I know that doesn't seem like much but I am very active and eat rather well. Does anyone think that by coming off of HRT that I will be able to lose that ugly 60 lbs and better my blood pressure and over all health? I also take a multivitamin and zyrtec for allergies. Any suggetions?

What Can I Expect?
I just read your post. You must have been typing it the same time I was mine. My question is about HPB being connected to Not Taking Hormones. Your question is if it is related to your premarin. This is all so confusing, isn't it? I can't take HRT because of blood clots. There are alternatives you could use. Trish has a good FYI article about alternatives to hormone therapy.
I wish we all could take a magic pill to make us all well!!!
Best of luck!
Maggie

What Can I Expect?
It is hard to say whether coming off hormones will help your weight loss etc. While there are many opinions on the use of HRT floating around, the current thinking is that for most women it should be used only for the relief of symptoms and not for prevention of disease.
IMHO you need to have a long talk with your doc about all of your risk factors for cadiac disease and have a plan - You have multiple risk factors (cholesterol, stroke, hypertension) - has your doc suggested a consultation with a cardiologist to work out a treatment plan?

Good suggestion
I never thought of a cardiologist. Unfortunately my health is also in the hands of the military medical system, tricare. It is like pulling teeth to get answers, referals, or anything paid for that does not seem to be necessary according to their budget. Today I went in and spoke with yet another family physician, you never get the same one, and asked if I could at least try something different. He gave me the Estradoil patch and changed my zyrtec back to claritin. He as I expected told me to lose weight. Easier said then done. I am almost 30 lbs heavier since surgery, two years ago. With both ovaries gone and my age being 39 they all seem to want to argue that I need more estrogen. I keep arguing how much and what kind. One ovary was destroyed years before surgery and the other was almost gone. Endo had smothered them. One was completely deteriorated, so my body has been with out large amounts of estrogen for years. It makes sense to me that the adrenal system must have been compensating in some way and now they want me to take more. I hope I am making sense. Anyway let's see how this patch works. I promise to walk, briskly for at least 30 min., 4 times a week. I am a fulltime student, I work, I am the mother of three teen boys, and I have a home to take care of. I just need more time.
