Stress/High Blood pressure/Vaginal Hys.

I am scheduled for a vaginal hysterectomy Friday the 13th at 7:00 AM. I'm really stressing. I just went to get my hair trimmed and the hair dresser started washing my hair and said "you must be really stressed" since she didn't even know me I asked her how did she know? "You scalp is so tight I can tell your under a lot of stress" I was impressed and shocked that it was so obvious. I have gone for one medical release appointment with my primary and didn't pass because of my blood pressure. I am just barely 50 and I just started having high BP in the last 7 months. Could it be a menopause thing? I'm still having my periods.

Anyway, 7 months ago they put me on Tiazac 240 mg. I have such "white coat syndrome" every time I go to the Dr. my BP is really high (170/110) just this week. He added another drug, diazan to help me get the BP down for the surgery. I go back for my second medical release appointment in the AM. Don't know if I will pass it or not. When I go down to Walmart my BP is 117/63. I know those machines aren't 100%, but I think it's closer to what I really am. I don't know what will happen if I mannage to make it to the OR waiting room. My GYN gave me aXanax pill to take the night before. I have had several surgeries and have never been this nervous. Please pray for me.

What's the vaginal hysterectomy really like?

Stress/High Blood pressure/Vaginal Hys.

Hi Elaine,

My surgery is scheduled for this Friday as well.

I do have HBP and have had to switch meds a couple of times to find one that works well so my dr could release me to have surgery. Finally, after having her recommend all the fancy new meds that didn't work on me, the good-old fashioned diuretic mixed in with my BP meds worked the best. It's the lowest it's been in years. (and the least expensive) I'm so happy with it.

Anyways, please remember to relax. I will be with you in thoughts and prayers on our special Castle day. Do whatever you can to put your mind at ease and take extra care for yourself in the next few days. They say that the waiting is the hardest part.

Good luck with your upcoming appt. keeping fingers crossed that all goes well.

~hugs~

Stress/High Blood pressure/Vaginal Hys.

Elaine,

Just a thought on your white coat problem! I have high blood pressure also and am on tiazac too. My doctor told me to keep a record of my pressures when I wasn't in his office and to show him at my visits, that way he would get a clearer picture of what is going on. Go to more than one place when you take it on your own so that you can tell if the machines are working ok. I am scheduled for a hyst on June 24 and believe me, my BP is way up some days!

Stress/High Blood pressure/Vaginal Hys.

i can relate to all of your worries.... the stress is so normal.... and in turn this will no doubt raise your blood pressure.... i had very high bp when i went for my pre op.... i was so freaked out it was not suprising... they did talk about cancelling my op but observed me when i actually went in and through sheer determination on my part..... it came down... still high but down.... i had to be in hospital at 12.00pm and had op at 4pm. i sat on the bed and absorbed all thoughts around me... those of my family and friends and the prayers and thoughts from our hystersisters... it had a very calming affect and i believe this helped me... in a way i was meditating relaxing/calming thoughts.... i had a tvh/b.repair... my experience was good as in i had no complications..... had op thurs... walking around bed.. slowly.. on friday... very tired... sat i felt good..... no pain..... i took pain killers as a preventive.. in case i was going to get the pain!!! home on the sunday.. no need for any more pain killers..... my recovery has been great... the hardest thing was not doing anything!!!!! 4 months on.. i have a pain free life..... any worries? ask us sisters..... we have been there.... we know what it's like..... we have walked your steps and this ... i believe.... can be a great help.... i wish you well.... mary. xx

Stress/High Blood pressure/Vaginal Hys.

I started having high blood pressure when I started pursuing help with my heavy crampy periods. I think initially it was from the oral BCP and then the progesteone and then after that it was probably sheer nerves and frustration because the doctor I was seeing told me I wasn't a candidate for any surgical procedure because my uterus was severely retroflexed and that I had to decide what was worse; putting up with heavy periods each month or constant bleeding from the progesterone. (I thought how would he like to bleed a little from his penis each day, I could arrange it.) Needless to say I was frustrated and switched doctors. The second gyn (a woman) told me since hormone therapy hadn't worked and I wasn't a candidate for ablation or D&C (uterine position) that I had 2 choices; put up with heavy periods until menopause or a hyst. I chose the hyst. Then I was so scared that my blood pressure stayed high until my Internal Medicine doctor told me to eat some dried fruit everyday because all dried fruits contain potassium which naturally lowers blood pressure. Once I started doing this, my pressures have come down quite nicely. I'm not saying to stop your BP meds but ask your doctor about doing this in addition to the meds. Good luck.
