HRT and Headaches

I had my total hysto in 4/99. I am taking 2 mg of EStrace and using the vivellle dot. I am having headaches on the days my patch is due to be changed. My Dr said I am on a high enough dose of estrogen. I am consodiering changing my route of estrogen to the monthly shot to see if headches go away. Anyone out there get headaches when the estrogen level drops?

HRT and Headaches

Hi

I've been having terrible headaches trying to get the hormones to the right level. I'm on Premarin (0.3mg now) and we have changed it a couple of times. My doc said that both higher levels of estrogen and lower levels can both cause bad headaches. It is hard to find just the right med that will work not to mention the dosage.

In answer to your question, yes, I do get headaches when the level of estrogen drops.

Sending you a big

Patty

Interesting

I thought my headaches were from putting the new patches on, didn't think about the fact that it could have been a drop in the level that caused the headache.

do you ladies chart or journal your reactions? I'm really not doing too badly right now on the .05 Estradiol weekly patch. The biggest problem I've had is the change over headache, and itchiness where the patch was after I've take it off......... I wonder if there's more I should be looking for.......

HRT and Headaches

Annie,
I have read where some women need to change their patches earlier than is recommended in the instructions. Perhaps you could talk to your doctor about this and if the doc okays it give it a try.

I always recommend using a journal to document your symptoms and hrt changes. This can be very helpful to you and the doctor to try and pinpoint what is going on. When I was tweaking my hrt, the hot flashes were the last thing to go. You could set your watch by those darn things. However, as I was looking at my journal I could see that the hot flashes were becoming less and less so I knew that I was on the right track.

Another thing that helped me was adding the supplements recommended here http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsa...hp?s=&id=97237 Magnesium is also helpful for headaches.
