Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

Hi, I just started induction on the Atkins Diet today. I bought the book and am reading it so that I will know exactly what I'm supposed to be doing. Would love to hear from anyone who has had or is having luck losing weight with this diet. I feel like it is sort of my last resort. I won't take diet pills and I have tried just about everything else and nothing works, not for very long anyway. Sally

Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

Hi ((((Sally))))

I'm not doing the Atkins diet, but I know that there are several members who post in Hysteritaville and B.E.S.T who are following that plan. This thread has a good discussion going about that plan Dr. Atkin's Diet You'll see that many are successful.

Best of luck with the Atkin's plan. Please keep us posted and feel free to join the daily threads in B.E.S.T.

Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

My dad uses the Atkins diet and he likes it. From my observations, he has to adhere to it or he gains weight back. Which really messes him up when they go to FL every year during the winter!! LOL! I still need to read the book and have been thinking anbout it myself. I guess my feelings are to make sure it is a diet you can live with long term. I feel that "diet" is a term that is misleading as I for one felt for a long time that it was temporary. It actually is not. Learning to eat correctly and nourishing one's body for the long term is more correct. I gave up on diets as the ones I tried were not nourishing to me and left me hungry and wanting more. I now try to eat sensibly and feel that once I curb my cravings for Cocacola, I would do better in this area. Soft drinks are my weakness as well as chocolate and I need to control that craving by revamping my lifestyle. Exercise works wonders and walking is great! Good luck!!

Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

Hi Sally,

I've posted on this before that my DH has been on the Atkins now for about 4 months. He's lost 23 lbs. He has the new book out & I highly recommend it. He's sticking to it quite well. It's nice that there is a variety of vegetables, fruits along with everything else. He makes a smoothie with strawberries for a snack. I even like it. Be sure to read the book so that when you go out to eat you know what to order. Good luck to you & let us know how it's going.

Atkins is great!

Hi! I have been doing Atkins since Oct 21st, 2002. I feel absolutely wonderful! Weight loss hasn't been phenomenal, but is going in the right direction! 25 lbs so far. Lots of inches lost. Be sure to measure yourself.
Good Luck!!!

Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

Hi Sally,

I started Atkin's the end of March 2003,long before I knew about my surgery. I lost 30 lbs! It is a great diet, but takes alot of practice. My diet consisted of entirely carbs and sugar and I was constantly tired. When I eliminated carbs and sugar I felt so energetic and the weight came off fast because I was eating so bad before. Now I crave veggies and protein!! I don't miss the bread at all. Sugar is another thing but Atkin's has some great sugar free desserts that it makes it easier. Induction is tough but you can do it, when you see the quick results it comes easier. Stay tough and good luck!! Check with your doctor though to make sure it is ok for you, just as a precaution. It is always best to check before starting any "plan." Lots of luck to you!!

Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

I started the Atkins Diet 9 weeks after my TAH/BSO. So far I've lost 27 pounds and 37 inches! and that includes LOTS of eating out plus 2 vacation trips! I believe that any diet works if you follow it, and for me, Atkins has been easy to follow. Be sure to measure yourself as the book suggests - some weeks, I didn't lose a pound, but wasn't discouraged when I saw that I was still losing inches.
Thanks to Atkins and the addition of moderate walking, I've lost my swelly belly and have regained my old stamina. While it seems to go against all conventional wisedom, I even lowered my cholesterol by 35 points in my first 8 weeks on it. Go ahead give it a try - you've only got POUNDs to lose!

Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

Hi Again,

Just wanted to update that now officially my DH has lost 25 lbs since he started. In addition to the book it's soo important to plan ahead for breakfast, lunch & dinner. He's not used to doing that but guess who does

He's now at the time to have his work clothes altered or buy new

Update

Thanks for all the replies. I started the Atkins Diet almost two weeks ago and the first 2 or 3 days were pretty rough. Thought I would just change my mind and not do it but decided that I had to at least give it a good chance. Well, I have lost 9 pounds and lost my swelly belly and hot flashes and most of the night sweats along with it. And also my aches and pains in my hips, legs, feet and wrists. I feel better than I've felt in a long time and have more energy than I have had in a long time. As time goes on I am finding that it is easier to do. My blood pressure is back to normal and I go at the end of July for my 1 year post-op appointment with my gyno and will have my cholesterol and triglycerides rechecked then. I'm expecting that they will also have much better results than last time. This diet seems to make no sense when it comes to losing weight because of the meat, eggs, butter, cheese and mayo that you are allowed. But it works.

Anyone have luck losing on the Atkins Diet?

Sally,

I started Atkins 3 weeks ago and have also lost 9 pounds, but my clothes fit sooo much better already! I know I am losing inches and that helps!

I did the diet a couple of years ago and lost 25 pounds, but as soon as I started back on the carbs-I gained it all back! I am going to try and make this my diet for life, my dh is diabetic and it's a great diet for him, he is off all meds and his blood sugar stays right where it's supposed to be. I am a sugarholic, but I feel so much better now that I have cut sugar out of my diet-my energy has come back and I actually can go on those healthy walks again. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that you have to COOK!

Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing your progress!

Louise
