What to expect???

I will be going in for a BSO/TAH & am curious... I just don't know what to expect afterwards. I just think (so does DH) that I have way too much time on my hands until my surgery in August...

I am going for a 2nd opinion on Monday & wonder if there are specific questions I should ask. I will be bringing my ultrasounds & test results... should I seek additional testing?

If I go through with surgery, how hard is it to keep weight loss off? What do HRTs do to you?

In addition, I had spinal fusion done years ago for scoliosis & am worried because my mom has osteo... What to do about that?

Thanks for your support

Sue

What to expect???

Hi Sue

So you have too much time on your hands. I say use that time to learn all you can about hysterectomies and what can happen during recovery! This site is a great site for information

I'm really glad you are going for a second opinion - it is always good to do this for a major surgery so you know that you are doing the right thing. I went to a second one too.

I have a couple of links that has questions that you can ask your doctor about. Here it is - just click on it and you will be there:

You mentioned weight loss. I just want to say that it is a very subjective subject because we all are different. I encourage you to read through the pre and post op articles - you'll find some great information there.

As far as the spinal fushion, I don't know about that subject. There are a lot of hystersisters out there so someone should know about that.

Hope some of this helps you! I'm sending you a big

Patty

What to expect???

Hi Sue,

On the home page, you can click under hints and
articles, and select princess stories, and read about
lots of different experiences. Everyone is so unique.
I had a TAH 5 and a half weeks ago. I stayed in the
hospital 3 days. But I am still recovering. I feel good
most of the time, but have twinges of pain if i over do
it. I kept my ovaries, so I haven't had hot flashes or
mood swings I've heard about. I haven't gained weight
either. I still don't lift anything over 8 to 10 pounds. I
havn't been cleared to resume normal activities yet. That
means for me no baths no swimming no heavy housework
and unfortunately no sex! Im glad your getting a second
opinion. You need to be comfortable about your decision.
Good luck to you.
