Has anyone else gained weight??

I've put on about 10 pounds since my surgery on May 27th. I am really envious of all of you who were able to lose.

Keep up the good work!

gaining weight

No, I haven't gained, but I certainly haven't lost like other's say.
I had my TVH 6-19. Could it be water weight from medications?

I'm not a doctor but have heard this is a possibility.

Has anyone else gained weight??

My surgery was also on the 27th. I've gain about 10 lbs. -- that's after losing 8 lbs. of water weight I put on from the meds in the hospital. I feel like I'm on a roller coaster.

Also wondering, is it possible to get swelly belly from a vaginal hyster? I feel kind of swollen and don't know what it's from. Any input would be appreciated.

I gained 8 pounds while recuperating, but lost it again once I was able to be more active again. The gain isn't necessarily an omen.

mdb- Yes, you can have swelly belly after a tvh. The work on the inside is the same, and it is partly to blame for the swelling.

Has anyone else gained weight??

Since I had lost a lot of weight before my hyst, I had been really worried about gaining weight after the surgey, especially with the inactivity. The docs removed a little over 8.5 pounds of stuff from me and I'm still very swollen.

Went formy weigh in today at Weight Watchers and I'm down 8.6 pounds. So I haven't gained any, and may find I've lost some after the swelling goes away. My doc says I may be swollen for a while to come, due to all the work they had to do.

It will be interesting to see what happens when my activity level is back to normal. I'm still watching what I eat and gradually increasing my activity level by walking in the early morning.

(((bluejeans))) If you're still on pain meds that may be the reason for loss of appetite. I notice on the days when I'm in pain and have to take a presription paihkiller, I have very little appetite.

Weight Gain

I came home from the hospital on 06.11.03 having gained 13 pounds. Most of this appears to have come from the fluids & gas from the surgery. I had a Laser assisted Hyst on 06.10.03. I am now 4 days post op & have dropped 8 lbs of the 13. I am staying away from anything carbonated right now & flushing my system with lots & lots of water. I am also a diabetic so portion size is very important. I also took the Hyster sisters book advice & picked up some GasX. I eat a lot of salads to keep the plumbing functional. I love food so this is very hard to do but keep a picture of myself 55 lbs heavier handy (this was 20 months ago) in order to keep everything in perspective. It's a very tough balancing act because we need to eat in order to heal & when we hurt food can be such a comfort.

Weight Gain

My Mother in Law has also had the surgery & she made the comment for a long time that she didn't change anything but seemed to gain a pound a month for a long time i.e. a period of 2 to 3 years. I remembered what she said prior to my surgery & it terrified me especially with how hard I had worked to lose the 55 lbs. Weight watchers may be the best idea since they are professionals. I do use some of there principals one of which is measuring my food for portion control. I had no clue what a cup of Cheerios was supposed to look like. I also have found that not eating 3 squares & doing 6 mini meals throughout the day works. Eating more salads helps. I also don't deny myself because if I am craving something so bad & I don't get to eat what I am craving the result is worse. I will eat twice as much of something else. I also have a teenage son who is 6 ft 2 and a 145 lbs & if I try to eat as much as he does the weight piles on. There are times when I think my weight goes up just watching him eat! I also have done food journals to see what I am eating & when & if there is some kind of stress that encourages me to eat. I read food labels (this just started with the diabetes). I look for calorie count & how much a serving size is & # of calories from fat.

Has anyone else gained weight??

I too lost weight right after my sergury on April 1st 2003, I lost 13 pounds total, than I gradually gained it back now I have gained back a total of 9 pounds, I think alot of it is due to swelly belly, because one day I cant fit in my jeans and the next week I can, so it may not be gaining from fat but just water and swelling. Frustrationg though whatever it is from. I had been excersicing, and eating salads too, so I actually improved my diet with no benefits from it weight wise. Just my experience.
