I am scheduled for a TAH 7/9 and we have a trip planned for the end of August. I will be six weeks post at the time of the trip. It is about an eight hour drive each way. Do you think I will be able to sustain a long car trip six weeks post-op, or is it still too soon?
Thanks!

I vote GO !!!

hi ..i was 7 weeks post op from a TAH/BSO and less than 2 weeks post op from a bladder complication and
i took a trip across country but i flew ...i got the ok from both Drs before i went ..i think if all goes well and you have no complications you can make that trip ..but you will need frequent breaks to stretch those legs and go potty too ...(this is true even if you havent had surgery ) you may have to take it easy when you get to your destinantion...it all depends on what you have planned ..i was prepared to sit back with my sister in law if i couldnt keep up but i did fine ..i usually have problems sleeping but during that vacation i sleep right through the night ...i had a blast and i think you will too if you just listen to your body and dont over do. My sister in law doesnt sleep well either and she and i had planned on having a cup of tea and chatting during at least one night ...as i was packing to fly back home she said you know we never did get to sit and have our tea!! i talked to my Dr before surgery i said i had this tripped planned and he said no reason why i shouldnt go and no need to hold off on surgery ..he said you will feel so much better not having to worry about bleeding while on vacation ....then 4 weeks post op i had this bladder complication ...that required another surgery but it was outpatient ...i said to that Dr ...i have this trip planned and its only a few weeks away now ...he said no problem or it can wait till i get back ..i said no get it over with ...Well my trip is over and yours is still ahead of you ..i hope your surgery goes well and you recover quickly ....and i hope you have a great trip ~~

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I will go ahead with the trip, and just be prepared to take it easy if I have to. I am glad your trip went well, I hope mine goes well too!
