Hi Taz,

I know that it sounds like a large amount, but believe it or not, 485 grams is just over a pound and a quarter. (We all hope for the 10 lb. uterus, don't we!)

Mine was a little under a pound, and was the size of a cantelope.

I'm glad you're healing well. Continue to take things slow and add activities back as you can tolerate them. You'll be up and raring to go before you know it!

s,

Lisa

Fibroid-sizes

My hyst. was on Friday the 13th and was "very difficult" my specialist said however it was a complete success!!! I was amazed first that I can actually deep breathe again already and second that my bladder flow is back to the way it used to be when I was a kid! My symptoms before were somewhat heavier periods with clotting lasting 3-4 days (about a day longer than normal) and I had started to notice a more quick urgency to pee. My specialist removed a 10-lb football size group of attached fibroids!!! My family doctor assisted and told me that the specialist was absolutely and impressively skilled as he carefully identified and protected my two ureters which are attached to the kidneys so that the large cluster could be removed. I was so happy that he also managed to keep my ovaries and after moving a lot of things around in there, put me back together. Within 48 hours, I am at home recovering in the comforts of my home after quite an ordeal of lost blood (didn't need a transfusion though) and being maxed out on morphine bringing my resps. down to 6/minute on the first night. I am amazed that I am walking around and know that there must have been many people praying for me as I couldn't possibly feel this good after going through all that. Thanks if you were one of them!
I am so impressed with my surgeon, my family doctor and the careful surveillance I received while I was in the hospital. I am happily sleeping the days away now in my own bed until I have fully recovered. Just wanted to say it is WORTH it and I remember being very crazy in the pre-op phase but now I am feeling respectful of human life in general...the people who make our lives a joy, the human body, the people we love and care about, the people who are being brave as they face their health issues and the people who work to save lives every day...I'm in awe.

Not as Huge as we hoped

Hi Taz,
I totally understand your dilema. I expected my uterus would weigh at least 10 to 15 pounds, especially since I was told prior to surgery my uterus was the size of someone 7 1/2 months pregnant. And I had five huge fibroids among others.

Well my uterus weighed 445 grams. Just under a pound.

453.57 grams equals one pound. Sooooooooo at 485 grams your uterus weighed slightly more than a pound.

My told me a uterus normally weighs approx. 50 grams.

I was totally ready to lose 20 to 25 pounds in the two - three hours that it would take to do the surgery.

Well, I did lose 10 pounds, mostly fluid. I hope it's a start. But, unfortunately I now know I'm going to have to work to lose that 20 to 25 pounds I dreamed of losing immediately.

Take care

mine only weighed 204 grams, but i was told it was the size of a 5 month pregnancy prior to surgery.

the measurements were 12.0 x 11.0 x 5.0 cm
what are the normal measurements does anyone know?

they also said i had multiple intramural fibroids that were 0.3 to 2.0 cm in diameter

My fibroids and uterus weighed 7lbs altogether. But it definitely felt like it. The dr seemed impressed. I don't know how large in size that is...baseball, soccer ball, etc. several were 14cm??

pretty big

My uterus was the size of a ***32-week**** pregnancy, if you can believe that (about 1780 grams). I could hardly. I'm so relieved that it's out.
