anyone with recurring UTI's?????

I am 10 1/2 wks post op and have been on 2 courses of antibiotics for urinary tract infections. I have had an infection since the surgery. I don't know if it is the same infection and just does not respond to antibiotics or if it is a new one. I am so tired of not feeling good. I think I would be doing much better if this infection could be gotten rid of. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem???? Thanks

anyone with recurring UTI's?????

Hi, my TAH-BSO surgery was May 20,2003 and I have a UTI that I have started on antibiotics. I was curious if this happens after surgery. My doc said that it can happen after surgery and can be a chronic problem. I also have MS which he said adds to this. I do wonder if other post op women have this problem. Will cranberry juice help this.

anyone with recurring UTI's?????

Hi Janana

I have had UTIs all during my life and they make me feel miserable. I take the antibiotics and they seem to just stay on. Now, whevener I get one, my doc puts me on a double course of antibiotics right away. I drink a lot of cranberry juice mices with sprite(because I've come to not like cranberry juixe!). UTIs make me feel real tired and worn out.

The other problem that may pop up with being on antibiotics for a long time is that you might get a yeast infection. Keep an eye out for that while you're on the medication.

Hope this helps a bit!

Sending you a big

UTI

I had a UTI when they took the catheter out the day after surgery. Now, at 13 weeks post-op, I have another. My dr. put me on strong sulfa meds. I may have adhesions, also. I am going to start taking the cranberry pills, because I probably won't remember to drink the juice all the time.

uti's

I to have had several since, I have had bladder spasms ever since as well. I have a standing order for levaquin from my surgeon. I am also consulting with my urologist since I have to follow up with him because durring all of my pre op testing they found out that I have cysts on my right kidney. I would feel like a totaly changed person if I could just get rid of all of the bladder issues..

Feel better soon!

anyone with recurring UTI's?????

Be sure to get a urine culture. My doctor thought I might have a UTI, but it turned out it was just trauma from surgery. My culture was negative, and it saved me from antibiotics/yeast infection. Good luck.

I too had re occurring Bladder infections for about 3 yrs and I felt aweful all the time the pain the spasms and the tired wore out feeling was getting to me BAD!! I went to my Urologist and he did procedure called a cystoscopy and was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. I am not implying that this is your problem but i feel it's worth for you or any one else that has this problem to check into it. There is a wonderful web site www.ichelp.org please check it out it has all the information there about the signs symtoms and treatment of this . I just could'nt understand why I kept having bladder infections all the time and it semed as tho every time I got over one it wasn't but a few months later I had another one it was disrupting my life and well being I was tired and irritable and achy all the time back aches and just felt lousy! I am thankful that I now know what was wrong with me so I am being treated for this and feel 100% better !! Good luck and let me know what you thought about the site

Bladder infection

I had a bladder infection before they removed the subpubic catheter in the hospital. I had one course of antibiotics with symptons returning shortly afterwards. So yesturday I had to "pee in the bottle" (as I call it) and started on more antibiotics. However, I do have additional bladder & nerve problems, as I do not empty my bladder very well (high urine retention). I also have difficulty feeling urge or fullness. These problems were there before surgery and will be with me always. So I can't say if the bladder infections are due to the surgery, or my high urine retention or a combination of both. Anyways, I'll need to get some more cranberry juice.

UTI

Hi, I am on my FIFTH round of antibiotics for the UTI. I had my surgery on March 26 and it has been one UTI after another. I think I've felt good about 1 day! What surprised me was the nauseousness I've felt. I've had bladder infections in the past, but don't remember getting nausea. Today I would've felt pregnant if I had the equipment! Eating crackers and everything.
My Dr. put me on an erthryomycin type drug==2 pills, 4 times a day for 21 days!!! This seems FAR too long. Cipro made me sicker than I've ever been, and the other presciptions obviously didn't work (or last). This IS very discouraging. I'm glad to hear I am not the only one with this problem!

Just make sure you are on the antibiotics for the right time/reason. Ask your to do a "culture and sensitivity" test on your urine. It will save time, and frustration.
Best wishes!
