Miserable
Hi there.
I'm 45 and I had a complete hysterectomy in February - ovaries, womb, cervix, tubes etc. They found that I had severe endo, multiple fibroids and hemeoraggic (spelling) cysts.
Anyway, I was off work for 3 months and came back to work as a legal secretary for a workaholic boss. As soon as I came back I was thrown straight into non-stop working, no lunch hour etc.
I've been taking HRT Oestrogel (2 pumps per day) and I feel soooo depressed. Why I don't know. I'm single, no children (didn't really want them so we can rule that one out). I feel more tired now than I did before I had the hysterectomy. I was told that once I had the hysterectomy I will feel like a different woman. Well I don't! Physically I feel fine (no pain, no bloating etc), but I'm feeling as I said, so depressed and lifeless.
Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone felt the same?
I spoke to my Gyno and she said it's NOT the HRT and that I should go to my own Dr.
Please help.
Sandra

Miserable
Sandra,
I had the same procedure as you on January 31/03 (I am 41). It was to remove a malignant tumor from my right ovary. I was off work for a total of 7 weeks (1 week in hospital and 6 weeks at home). When I returned to work (working fulltime as a financial services assistant at a credit union) I was still very tired and found myself "powering out" usually around noon or so. Though I do not work for a boss like you and was told many times by mine that if I felt tired to go home and rest. I never did go home though, being stubborn I suppose. However, once I got home from a long day I was ready for a rest. At 6 weeks I was still very sore and still have some tenderness today as well. I didnt start on HRT untill April (Premerin .625). I was really beginning to feel miserable, moody, the hot flashes were becoming unbearable for me as well. At 6 weeks I spoke to my surgeon (a gyno/endocrenologist) asking her about HRT, she suggested I talk to my family doctor. Not sure why I waited so long (again, guess being stubborn trying to do this whole thing without HRT) but when I finally spoke to him we talked about the different options and of course it was obvious he was a Premerin man. Since starting on the HRT I have been feeling better as far as the menopausal symptoms go. I havnt had a hot flash in awhile, the moodyness isnt as bad (though I do find it does come out from time to time) and I dont have any more problems with things like vaginal dryness or dry skin. My ancles have been aching terribly lately though but Im also doing alot of walking for excercise to Im wondering if maybe its more connected to that.
Your gyno is right, you need to talk to your doctor about how you are feeling. And dont just let him dismiss your concerns and not listen. You have to make him listen hon. As far as feeling like a new woman once you had the surgery .. honey from what Ive been told by other women who have had this, that does not happen over night Im afraid.

i am not familiar with the oesterogel, but i'm wondering if the tired and depressed could be your thyroid. alot of women develop thyroid problems after a hyst. ask your dr for a full thyroid panel blood test.
