bowel movement?

Had SAH on Monday and home on Wed. All went as expected. I am wondering how long until I have my first BM. What can I do to help it come along comfortably?

bowel movement?

Are you taking Colase or something like it to keep things soft? This is helpful for several weeks. The first several BMs hurt as those muscles you need have been wounded.

In any case,...I had surgery on Monday and by Thursday was worried about it. So I ate a bunch of raisins and sauted and ate an onion. I had the BM, but so much gas as well that I took an extra dose of Percocet just to slow the digestion back down!

Hi,

I went on my 5th day after surgery. It helps to walk some, drink lots of water, take stool softner, eat some fiber. If you have any problems with it give a call they have some good suggestions.

bowel movement?

Prunes, water, small walks, a daily stool softener, grapes, tomatoes...anything! I still have constipation, so I can't imagine what it would have been like if I didn't do these things! Yesterday was so bad that I felt like I had been through a 60 minute aerobics session when I left the bathroom At least I am having less battles with the gas dragon That was truely horrible!

Keep the routine going for a few weeks. It really does take that long for things to start working. If you are still not going after trying these things, contact your Dr. right away.

Good luck

I add this all the time because I think we need a laugh after all we've been through. Do a search on this site for "only place on the web I can share" and you'll get the bm thread. But bring along your tummy pillow, because it's really funny.

bowel movement?

I had a TAH BSO on June 16 and by Thursday night I had my first BM, which was formed. I just held my incision together with my hands because I was worried about "bearing down" causing a strain on my internal stitiches. Started on Colace Wednesday and took 2 dulcolax pills Thursday night, and today I had a large soft BM.

bowel movement?

My TAH/BSO was also on June 16 and still no BM for me either. I am finally starting to pass some gas....that even took a long time and it's still painful. I'm taking MOM, Colace, lots of fluid and fiber so I hope the wait will be over soon...
