Here's something for all the post op girls having problems--I remember what that was like--blessed relief is on the way if you take this concoction.
This recipe is from Dr. Donohue, a syndicated columnist. It works for me! (I have also read drinking papaya juice is a sure thing.)
2 cups of Miller's bran (the kind found in health food stores)
2 cups of applesauce (sweetened or unsweetened)
1 cup of prune juice (sweetened or unsweetened)
Mix together. Refrigerate. Take 2 to 3 tablespoons twice a day. You can add anything you want to make it taste better (nuts, fruits, or your favorite spices), as long as you don't omit the three basic ingredients.
I had a fun experience last year before my LAVH - slipped on ice and broke my T-4 vertebre. So I have a little experience with pain killers and constipation, Oxycontin being the WORST (I was on it for six months). Eventually I got into the habit of chewing on some moist yummy dried apricots every day, accompanied by large quantities of water. Everyone's different, but this seemed to do the trick for me - without all the prune juice and Metamucil (ACK!).
All I can say 'bout my surgery a week ago is - thank GOD for lasers!!!!!!!!!
I made up this recipe and it made way to much, I would recamend you make a smaller batch, maybe in 1/2 or even smaller. I didn't like the taste and had to toss it out, but it realy did the trick. I wasted all those ingerdents (shame on me).
Here's a recipe that will do the trick, tastes yummy, and fills that chocolate craving -
2 C All Bran cereal
2 1/2 C water
1 box fat-free or low-fat brownie mix
1 1/2 t baking powder
Put cereal and water in mixing bowl. Let sit for half an hour. Add brownie mix and baking powder. Mix ingredient together til they're well blended. Put batter in a muffin tin. Bake at 400 for about 20 minutes or til a toothpick comes out clean.
Just don't make the mistake of eating too many in one day!
