New fear !

I have been reading some Postop messages and have seen something called a Seroma.

Can anyone shed light on this subject for me? It sounds similar to a fissure. Does anyone know why these happen or how to avoid getting one?

So much to worry about.

I am one of those seroma hyster sisters. A seroma is a complication that can develop around the surgical area. It is a pocket that fills with fluid. It heals from the inside out and can take awhile to heal. It happens more with gals who are overweight and it can happen more with gals with diabetes too. My Dr. said there is nothing that you do or don't do that causes a seroma. It is just how a person's body choses to react to having things opened up, removed, and moved around.

It is not a fun thing, but it is also something that you shouldn't worry about too much before surgery. You can fill your head worrying about "what ifs" and then they never happen! Just spend your pre-op time getting your house ready for you to be laid up for awhile!
